Crimson Desert gets patch 2.03.00: stability, horses and DLSS Ray Reconstruction

Pearl Abyss keeps fine-tuning Crimson Desert and has just released version 2.03.00 on PS5, Xbox Series and PC. As reported by Vandal, this is not a major content expansion but a maintenance patch: more stability, bug fixes and a series of gameplay tweaks arriving just a few weeks after the more substantial update the game received at the end of August.

Why do we care about a patch that, at first glance, is one of those fix and polish releases? Because in an open-world game with demanding combat and mount systems, the small details are what separate a smooth session from one full of frustration. And because the studio has included an update to DLSS Ray Reconstruction on PC, something that directly affects anyone who plays and records with NVIDIA hardware.

What you need to know

  • Patch 2.03.00 is available on PS5, Xbox Series and PC, with a focus on stability and bug fixes.
  • Photo mode gets a new precise movement option for finer camera control.
  • Mounts and horse races have been reworked; among other things, a bug that made rivals move too fast in certain races has been fixed.
  • The Water Stride skill now lets you jump while it is active, and slide if you have Vaporwalker equipped.
  • On PC, DLSS Ray Reconstruction, NVIDIA's system for reconstructing ray-traced lighting, has been updated.

What changes in the player's day-to-day

The most eye-catching addition for those who enjoy capturing the world of Pywel is the precise movement option in Photo mode. Until now, framing a scene exactly could be a bit of an ordeal; this option gives finer control of the camera, something creators who use the game as a backdrop for thumbnails, covers or short clips will especially appreciate.

On the mounts side, the most talked-about change is the fix to horse races: there were cases where rivals ran at a clearly higher speed than expected, making some events unfair by design. With this patch, the competition should be more balanced. Vandal also mentions several changes related to mounts without going into full detail, so it is worth checking the official notes if you are the kind of player who spends half the game on horseback.

In combat and movement, Water Stride gains versatility: being able to jump with the skill active opens up new traversal routes, and combining it with Vaporwalker to slide is a clear nod to players looking for style and speed in their runs. The source also points to a tweak to how enemies behave when pushed during combat, although the available text does not detail the specific change.

The context: a game in its polishing phase

Crimson Desert reaches this version after a major update at the end of August. That rhythm of big patch followed by tuning patches is standard for productions of this size: first systems or content are introduced, and then the side effects the community detects en masse are fixed. Version 2.03.00 falls into that second category.

The DLSS Ray Reconstruction update on PC deserves a separate mention. This NVIDIA technology replaces traditional denoisers with an AI model that reconstructs ray-traced lighting, and it usually translates into cleaner reflections and shadows with fewer artifacts. Vandal does not provide performance figures, so we will not make them up, but any improvement on this front matters to anyone playing at high resolution or looking for cleaner captures to publish.

Our take

Here at the Underworld Lordz editorial team we see this patch in a positive light, but with some caveats. Pearl Abyss keeping up a steady pace of fixes is a good sign of commitment to the game, and fixes like the one for horse races are exactly what the community is asking for: fewer surprises, more consistency. For the competitive player, an open world with clear rules is always better than one full of odd behaviors you have to learn to work around.

That said, we would like more transparency. When the source talks about several changes to mounts or tweaks to pushed enemies without the real scope being clear, we are left with the feeling that the patch notes could be more detailed. Content creators need to know exactly what changes in order to prepare guides, comparisons and videos; a vague list forces them to experiment blindly and correct their published material afterwards.

The DLSS Ray Reconstruction update is, for us, the most interesting point. Any visual improvement with no performance cost is gold for anyone who does streaming, but we would like the studio to explain what specific improvement this version brings and in which setups it is noticeable. In the meantime, it is time to test it and share impressions.
