EA Sports FC 27: early access kicks off on September 18, but only if you pay

We're just days away from EA Sports FC 27 arriving on every platform, but part of the community will start playing before everyone else. According to Vandal, the official launch is set for September 25 on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch (both the original console and Switch 2), although anyone who bought the more expensive editions will be able to get in from September 18 at 00:00 in each region.

The news matters for a very simple reason: in a competitive game like this one, a week's head start is no small detail. It's time to learn the new mechanics, test the early Ultimate Team meta and, for content creators, publish the first videos and streams while audience attention is at its peak. That's why it's worth knowing exactly which edition grants early access, how much it costs and what it really includes.

What you need to know

  • Official date: September 25 on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and Switch 2.
  • Early access: from September 18 at 00:00 in each region, seven days ahead of the standard edition.
  • Editions with the head start: Ultimate Edition (€109.99) and Ultimate Plus Edition, compared with €79.99 for the standard edition.
  • Ultimate Plus is no longer available: its pre-order window closed on August 31.
  • Ultimate Edition extras: 6000 FC Points spread over three months, the Season 1 Premium Pass and content for several modes.

What each edition includes and who it affects

The formula isn't new: Electronic Arts has been using early access as a hook for its premium editions for years, and FC 27 follows the same playbook. Anyone who buys the Ultimate Edition gets, on top of the game and the extra week, 6000 FC Points delivered over three months, the Season 1 Premium Pass, a player EVO slot, immediate content carried over from FC 26, The Grounds items and extras for Career Mode. It's a bundle clearly aimed at the player who lives in Ultimate Team and wants to start with resources from day one.

The Ultimate Plus Edition, the most complete of them all, is already history: anyone who didn't pre-order it before August 31 won't be able to get it. That means, as of today, the only way to get in on September 18 is the Ultimate Edition. The standard edition, for its part, will have to wait until September 25.

The timing detail

One practical point worth highlighting: early access opens at 00:00 in each region, not at a single global time. That means the Underworld Lordz community in the Americas can start at their own midnight, without depending on European time, and vice versa. For organizing streams or team sessions it's a key detail, because teammates on either side of the Atlantic won't be getting in at the same time.

Precio de las ediciones de EA Sports FC 27

Our take

Let's be direct: the 30-euro gap between the standard edition and the Ultimate Edition is the price of a one-week head start and a bag of FC Points. For the casual player who wants to enjoy Career Mode or play a few matches with friends, we find it a hard expense to justify. Seven days later the game is the same, and the extra content is designed above all to feed Ultimate Team, which is where EA wants you to spend your money.

That said, for anyone who competes or creates content, the math changes. In FC, the first few weeks define the meta, the squads that dominate the early tournaments and the rhythm of weekly rewards. Getting in on the 18th instead of the 25th means arriving at the first competitive weekend with knowledge, not blind. And for a streamer or YouTuber, the "first impressions" videos and day-one pack openings tend to be the biggest traffic drivers of the entire season. In that scenario, the Ultimate Edition stops being an indulgence and becomes almost a work tool.

What does bother us is the underlying trend. Having the most complete edition disappear before the game even comes out, or selling the week's head start as an extra, turns the release calendar into one more rung of the monetization strategy. We'd like the industry to reserve early access for technical tests or open betas, not for sorting players by how much they're willing to pay.

What do you think?

The team has a bit of everything: those who already have the Ultimate Edition pre-ordered to get in on the 18th, and those who prefer to wait for the 25th and save the difference. Is it worth paying 30 euros more for a week's head start and the FC Points, or do you think EA is stretching the model too far? Tell us in the team chat or on our Discord.
