Special edition hardware has become something of a ritual for many players: every major PlayStation launch comes with a themed DualSense that, beyond being something to play with, doubles as a collector's piece. This time it's Wolverine's turn. According to IGN Spain, its editorial team already has the Marvel's Wolverine special edition controller for PlayStation 5 in hand, and the first impression is clear: it looks even better in person than in the promotional images.
The detail that stands out most to us isn't aesthetic, though, but financial. According to IGN Spain, this controller costs only 10 euros more than a standard DualSense. In a market where limited editions usually come with a markup that is hard to justify, such a small difference makes this DualSense a reasonable option even for those who don't consider themselves collectors. And that matters for any player thinking about replacing or adding to their controllers ahead of the season.

What You Need to Know
- What it is: a special edition DualSense inspired by Marvel's Wolverine, designed for PlayStation 5.
- Price: according to IGN Spain, about 10 euros above the standard DualSense.
- Hands-on impression: IGN Spain's editorial team says it looks better in person than in the official photos.
- Who it's for: collectors and fans of the character, but given the price, also anyone who simply needs a second controller.
- Source: the full hands-on is published in IGN Spain's shopping section.
Why the Price Changes the Conversation
Normally, when we talk about a special edition controller or console, the underlying question is how much you're willing to pay for the design. Here that question loses much of its weight: with a difference of barely 10 euros compared to the base model, the argument of I'm buying it because it looks cool stops being an expensive indulgence and becomes an almost logical decision if you were going to buy a DualSense anyway.
This affects two very different profiles. For the collector, it makes life easier, because they no longer have to choose between the controller they want and the one that makes sense. And for the player who plays local co-op, or who rotates controllers so the same one doesn't always wear out, it offers an alternative with personality that doesn't punish the wallet. What you should keep in mind, though, is that, based on what IGN Spain describes, the appeal lies in the finish: nothing suggests it's a different controller on the inside.

The Themed DualSense as Sony's Strategy
It's not the first time PlayStation has paired one of its big exclusives with a matching controller. The formula is well known: an eye-catching design, tied to the game's universe, that appears in shop windows and in the hands of content creators right when the conversation around the title is at its peak. The Wolverine controller fits that pattern, and the fact that the press already has it in hand means the promotional machine is up and running.
The difference compared to other occasions is the messaging around the price. That an outlet like IGN Spain highlights that it costs only 10 euros more than the standard model is, in itself, a sign that Sony wants this controller to sell in large numbers rather than be a niche item. A controller that is cheap to get is a controller that shows up in more living rooms, more streams and more photos, and that is free advertising for the game.
Our Take
From the Underworld Lordz editorial team, we'll say it straight: we think it's a good move, and with a 10-euro difference it's hard to find fault with the approach. If the finish in person lives up to what IGN Spain describes, for a Wolverine fan it's an almost mandatory purchase. And for everyone else, it's a DualSense with more personality for the price of a pizza.
That said, for the competitive player this changes absolutely nothing. A special edition controller is still, for all practical purposes, the same controller as always: the same sticks, the same response, the same limitations we already know. We'd love to see Sony put the same care into what's underneath as it does into the shell: better sticks, more durability and real customization options without having to jump to far more expensive controllers. A pretty design doesn't win rounds.
For content creators, on the other hand, there is clear value. An eye-catching controller works on camera, in thumbnails and in setup photos, and if it also matches the game you're streaming, the aesthetics are a plus. Our advice: if you're going to buy it, buy it for what it is, a DualSense with a special finish, and don't expect it to make you a better player.
What Do You Think?
We're clear that the price makes it very tempting, but also that the upgrade is purely visual. What about you? Would you pay those extra 10 euros for a special edition DualSense, or would you rather Sony invested in improving the controller on the inside? Let us know in the team chat or on our Discord.
