Playground Games has made its move at Gamescom 2026. As reported by Eurogamer España, the British studio behind the Forza Horizon series used the Cologne show to drop a solid batch of information about the new Fable, with two clear headlines: there are now official requirements for the PC version, and the main quest comes in at around 20 hours.
Why does it matter? Because Fable is one of Xbox's biggest bets and, until now, most of what we knew came from trailers and promises. Having a requirements sheet on the table means the game is at an advanced stage of optimization and that the PC community can finally start checking whether their rig can handle the trip to Albion. And the 20-hour figure finally puts a realistic frame around expectations for the size of the adventure.

What you need to know
- Playground Games has published the official PC requirements for the new Fable; the full spec sheet is detailed on Eurogamer España.
- The main quest will run approximately 20 hours, according to the studio itself.
- All of this information was revealed as part of Gamescom 2026, along with more details about the game.
- This is the reboot of a historic Xbox series, now in the hands of the Forza Horizon studio, which is making its debut in the action RPG genre.
PC requirements: the signal we were waiting for
We won't reproduce the full component list here (you can find it at the source), but we do want to highlight what the move implies. Publishing requirements isn't a formality: it's the moment a studio publicly commits to specific performance on specific configurations. From here on, any deviation at launch becomes ammunition for the community, so Playground has to be very confident in its numbers.
There's also a track record working in its favor. Playground earned a solid reputation with the PC versions of Forza Horizon, which shipped with very comprehensive graphics options and generally well-scaled performance. The big unknown is whether that experience carries over to an open-world RPG, with far more simulation, AI and level-loading variables than a driving game. The requirements sheet is the first hint of which way things are heading.
20 hours: too much or too little for a Fable?
The length of the main quest is the other big headline, and it deserves some nuance. The 20 hours refer only to the central storyline; in a Fable, historically, the charm was always in everything happening around it: buying property, messing around with the locals, making absurd moral choices and returning to a village to discover how it has changed. If that spirit is preserved, the real hour count per player could soar well beyond the main story.
It also has to be said: 20 hours is a reasonable length for a narrative-focused action RPG, and it fits what many players are asking for today, which is less filler and more purposeful content. The risk lies at the opposite extreme: if the side content is thin, the adventure could feel like too little. With the information currently available, there's no way to know which way the scales will tip.
Our take
Here at the Underworld Lordz newsroom, we applaud Playground for putting concrete numbers on the table. Transparency about requirements and length is exactly what we ask of the industry, especially for a project that has spent so many years under the spotlight. That said, we're keeping our usual caution: official length figures usually measure a fairly direct playthrough, and requirements announced at a trade show don't always reflect day-one performance. We'll believe it when we see it running on our own machines.
For the team's content creators, this news is interesting. A campaign of around 20 hours is perfectly manageable across a series of streams or a week of videos, without turning into a marathon that wears out the audience. And having the requirements already published makes it possible to plan capture and streaming setups well in advance, something we can't always do with releases of this scale.
On our more competitive side, Fable isn't a ranked or tournament game, but it is the kind of title that brings the community together around a shared experience: comparing choices, discussing routes and laughing at each other's moral disasters. That kind of conversation builds a team too, and we're going to encourage it.
What do you think?
We want to know how you see it: do around 20 hours of main story feel like enough for the return of Fable, or were you expecting a much longer adventure? And does your PC meet what Playground is asking for? Tell us in the team chat or on our Discord and let's debate it as a community.
