Hideo Kojima is once again at the center of the conversation. According to IGN Spain, the creator of Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding appeared at the latest Xbox event to share updates on his two ongoing projects: OD, his Xbox-linked horror project, and Physint, the tactical action-espionage title that half the industry is waiting for as if it were the spiritual return of Solid Snake. The appearance also comes at a delicate moment: shortly before, it had emerged that PlayStation was no longer behind Physint.
The move matters for two reasons. The first is timing: OD had been silent for a while, and any sign of life is welcome. The second is strategic: Kojima taking the Xbox stage right after Sony distanced itself from his espionage project says a lot about how the board is being reshuffled between the major platforms and the heavyweight independent studios. And yes, according to the source, stars have already been confirmed and the lead of Physint has been revealed.

What you need to know
- Kojima was at the latest Xbox event with his own segment dedicated to his projects, as reported by IGN Spain.
- OD received an update: Kojima's segment kicked off precisely with news about the horror game.
- Physint also took the spotlight, and it has been confirmed who heads the cast of this tactical action-espionage game.
- Big stars are joining the project, in keeping with a creator who has always bet on well-known faces.
- All of this comes after PlayStation's exit from Physint, a change of partner that continues to raise questions about platforms and dates.
Context: a breakup and an alliance in a matter of weeks
To grasp the magnitude of the moment, you have to remember where Physint comes from. Kojima presented it as his return to the genre that made him famous: tactical action and espionage, the formula that defined Metal Gear for decades. For a long time the project was associated with PlayStation, and that association sounded almost like a guarantee of exclusivity. However, as IGN Spain recalls, shortly before this event it was revealed that Sony was jumping ship.
What stands out is not just the exit, but the speed with which Kojima has secured another showcase. Appearing at the Xbox event, where OD already had its natural slot, lets him use a single stage to send a double signal: OD is still alive, and Physint is still moving forward, with stars on board. The source does not specify which platforms Physint will ultimately land on, nor does it offer any dates, so on that front it is best not to take anything for granted.

OD and Physint: two sides of the same creator
It is worth not mixing the two projects up. OD is a horror project, an experiment that Kojima has pitched from the start as something different from anything he had done before. Physint, on the other hand, is familiar territory: infiltration, stealth, espionage. The fact that the same event served to talk about both makes it clear that Kojima Productions is not shelving either one, and that the studio feels comfortable sharing a stage with Xbox even though Physint was born under a different flag.
Signing well-known names is no surprise either: since Death Stranding, Kojima has turned the casting of actors and directors into a trademark. What does change is the symbolic weight of those signings in Physint, because the game carries the expectation of being "the new Metal Gear" without bearing that name.
Our take
At Underworld Lordz we have spent years watching the industry confuse noise with substance, and Kojima is the master of well-managed noise. That said, we think the play is a smart one. Losing PlayStation's backing could have been read as a blow; showing up shortly afterwards on the rival's stage with stars in tow turns that blow into a positive headline. It is textbook marketing, but also a show of strength: there are not many creators who can switch partners without the project wobbling.
That said, for those of us who play competitively and those of us who create content, what matters is not the signings or the stage, but what we still do not know: platforms, a release date and, above all, whether Physint will have gameplay that holds up beyond the campaign. The stealth genre has gone years without a benchmark with real staying power on Twitch and YouTube, and a Kojima on home turf could be exactly what the scene needs to have something new to study, speedrun and talk about. If it all ends up as interactive cinema with famous faces, the community will enjoy it for a week and move on.
We are skeptical of announcements that arrive without a date, and this one arrives without a date. But we acknowledge that, between OD and Physint, Kojima has once again placed himself at the center of the conversation while barely showing his hand. Whether you like it or not, that is talent.
