Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja have finally set a date for Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember, the sequel to Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. As reported by Vandal, the game will arrive on March 4, and to warm things up the studio has released a free alpha demo that you can download right now from the PS Store, Xbox Store and Steam. The Nintendo Switch 2 version is also planned for the same date, although for now it goes without a trial.
The news matters for two reasons. First, since the June announcement there had been hardly any updates, and many assumed the project would slip further down the calendar. Second, the demo isn't just a showcase: completing it unlocks a reward in the final game, so there's a real reason to drop by Changban before the trial disappears.

What you need to know
- Release date: March 4 on PS5, Xbox, PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch 2.
- Free alpha demo available now on the PS Store, Xbox Store and Steam; Switch 2 is left out for now.
- Limited time: the trial can be played until September 30.
- Reward: finishing the demo unlocks the Soaring Phoenix Helmet in the final version.
- Prices: €79.99 for the standard edition and €109.99 for the Digital Deluxe, which includes the season pass and its bonus.
What the demo offers and what comes next
The alpha trial takes you to part of Changban, one of the most recognizable settings of the Three Kingdoms period. The premise is what you'd expect from the series: face Cao Cao's forces, take down high-level demons and, in the story, change the course of the battle. In other words, soulslike combat with Team Ninja's signature style, fast and built around reading your opponent, set in the mythical China that the first game already explored.
The fact that they're calling it an alpha and not a beta is a relevant detail. Team Ninja has been using these early trials for some time to gather community feedback before locking down the combat system, and everything suggests the same is happening here: what you play now won't necessarily be identical to what arrives in March. That also explains the reward, a classic incentive to get as many players as possible through the demo and leave usage data behind.
The two editions, side by side
| Edition | Price | Contents |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | €79.99 | Base game |
| Digital Deluxe | €109.99 | Game, season pass and season pass bonus |
The difference between the two is 30 euros, and what you're buying with that jump is, essentially, the season pass in advance. If the first game is any reference, that pass usually translates into several additional chapters with new stages and bosses, but it's worth waiting for Koei Tecmo to detail the content before deciding.

Our take
Here at the Underworld Lordz newsroom we're glad to see Team Ninja betting on an open demo again. In a genre where the feel of combat is everything, being able to try it before paying is the bare minimum we should demand, and very few big studios do it. For those of us who make a living competing and creating content, an alpha with a closed window is also a golden opportunity: there are a couple of weeks to put out guides, Changban routes and comparisons with the first Wo Long while the conversation is hot.
That said, there are two things we don't like. The first is the price: €79.99 for a standard edition puts it squarely in the premium tier, and €109.99 for a Deluxe whose season pass hasn't even been detailed yet feels like asking for a lot of faith up front. The second is Switch 2 being left without a demo: if the release date is the same, players on that platform deserve to check how the version performs before committing, especially in a game this demanding on frame rate and controller response.
The first Wo Long had a rough start on PC, and that memory lingers. An alpha demo is also a way to prove they've learned their lesson; if the trial arrives stable and performing well, most of the doubts will fade on their own. If not, March 4 may come with more noise than Koei Tecmo would like.
