Innersloth has put a date on the calendar: Among Us Story: On Guard arrives on February 17, 2027. That's according to Eurogamer España, which reported the studio's announcement of its upcoming game set in the Among Us universe, the franchise of crewmates, impostors and betrayals that defined an era of online social gaming.

Why does it matter? Because Among Us isn't just a game, it's a cultural phenomenon that turned matches with friends into streaming content, memes and all-night Discord sessions. Innersloth expanding that universe with a new title tells us the studio wants to keep making the most of a brand everyone recognizes. The question is whether it can deliver more than nostalgia.

What you need to know

  • Title: Among Us Story: On Guard.
  • Release date: February 17, 2027.
  • Developer: Innersloth, the studio behind Among Us.
  • Setting: takes place within the Among Us universe.
  • Source: the core information comes from Eurogamer España.

What we know and what's still up in the air

Let's be clear about what's actually on the table: the announcement confirms the game's name, the studio behind it, its connection to the Among Us universe and its release date. That's about it. The initial information doesn't specify platforms, price, game modes or whether there will be a multiplayer component, so anything you read elsewhere on those points should be taken with a grain of salt until Innersloth confirms it.

The name itself does offer some clues. Calling it Story suggests something with more narrative weight than the original game, whose appeal was never the script but what happened between the players. And the subtitle On Guard hints at a focus on surveillance or defense. But we'll stress it again: this is our reading of the title, not something the studio has explained.

Who it could affect

If the new game moves away from the social deduction format, its target audience could change quite a bit. Players who lived for quick matches with friends might not find the same thing here, while those who always wanted to learn more about that world of colorful, suspicious astronauts could finally get their dose of story. For content creators, the key will be whether the title produces shareable moments or turns out to be a more contemplative experience that's hard to turn into clips.

Our take

Here at Underworld Lordz, we're watching this with a mix of curiosity and caution. Among Us proved that a simple, well-executed idea can bring millions of people together around a virtual table. But we also saw how quickly the hype fades when the community feels a game isn't evolving. Expanding the universe makes sense; what we don't want is a product that coasts on the logo and the crewmates' faces alone.

From a competitive standpoint, let's be honest: Among Us was never an esport in the traditional sense, although it did spawn community tournaments, friendly leagues and some very creative streaming formats. If On Guard leans into narrative, it's unlikely to build a competitive scene of its own. Even so, we wouldn't rule out the community finding ways to compete, whether through speedruns, challenges or organized events. That's where teams and creators like us can add value.

What worries us is the lack of details. Announcing a date several months in advance without explaining what kind of game it is leaves far too much room for speculation. We hope Innersloth shows gameplay soon and is transparent about platforms and its business model. If it gets this right, it could win back a community that has drifted apart; if not, it risks the announcement coming and going without much notice.
