Ubisoft has announced that Assassin's Creed Valhalla will receive a New Game+ mode, a feature much of the community has been asking for almost since the game hit shelves in November 2020. As reported by IGN Spain, the announcement appears in a post on the company's official blog that runs through several future plans for the series, and among them is this update for the Viking chapter.
The news matters because of what it represents: six years after launch, when practically everyone considered the game's lifespan over, Ubisoft has decided to revisit one of the biggest and most debated entries in the franchise. For those who still have their save file, it is the perfect excuse to return to England. For those who abandoned the adventure halfway through because of its sheer size, it is a chance to reconsider a second run with a different mindset.

What you need to know
- What's coming: a New Game+ mode for Assassin's Creed Valhalla, confirmed by Ubisoft on its own blog.
- When the game came out: November 2020, so the new feature lands roughly six years after release.
- Where it was revealed: in a post about the future plans for the series, where Valhalla is just one of the items and is only mentioned briefly.
- What we don't know: the available information gives no release date, no list of affected platforms and no details on exactly what carries over when you start again.
- Where the information comes from: this article is based on the story published by IGN Spain, drawn from Ubisoft's announcement.
What changes for those returning to England
A New Game+ is, in essence, the ability to replay the story from the beginning without losing what you built in your first playthrough. In most games that include it, that means keeping your level, skills, gear or cosmetics while the world resets and, sometimes, the difficulty gets tougher. Note: these are the usual traits of the format, not confirmed details for Valhalla. Ubisoft has yet to explain which version of the idea it will apply here, and until it does, it is best not to take anything for granted.
What is clear is who benefits. Valhalla is a massive game, with a long progression curve and a pace that many players found sluggish at the time. A mode that lets you skip the phase of building your character from scratch and focus on the story, on the areas you never explored or on self-imposed challenges fits perfectly with the kind of player who has already finished the campaign and is looking for a fresh reason to come back.
Why it's arriving so late
It is unusual for a game to receive a feature of this scale six years on, and the source does not explain the reasons. From our side, we can only speculate: it could be a gesture toward a community that remains active, a way of keeping the back catalogue relevant while the series looks ahead to its next installments, or simply a pending task that has finally found room on the schedule. What matters is that the blog post itself presents it as part of a broader plan, so it does not look like an isolated move but rather one piece within Ubisoft's overall strategy for Assassin's Creed.
Our take
At Underworld Lordz we will say it plainly: this is late, very late. A New Game+ should have been available while the game was still on everyone's lips, not once most players have already uninstalled it or moved on to other entries. We welcome the fact that Ubisoft is listening, but we are not going to applaud something the community asked for consistently for years as if it were an unexpected gift.
That said, for content creators the news has more to it than meets the eye. A fresh start with a fully developed character opens the door to challenges, speedruns, themed playthroughs and route comparisons that previously required starting from zero and sinking dozens of hours. For those who stream and make videos about single-player games, Valhalla becomes usable material again, and in a market where content dries up fast, that is no small thing.
What we demand as an editorial team is clarity. A brief mention on a blog is not enough: we want to know when it arrives, on which platforms and exactly what carries over. If the implementation is ambitious, it could give the game a genuine second life; if it is a minimal patch just to tick a box, it will go down as a belated footnote. The difference between the two will be decided by Ubisoft in the coming weeks, and we will be watching.
