Battlefield 6 lands on Game Pass with a $30 shortcut to every weapon

Battlefield 6 is now part of the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate library. According to GameSpot, Battlefield Studios has made the shooter available to subscribers of the service's most expensive tier ($23 a month) on both PC and console, and it can also be played via cloud streaming. The arrival coincides with the launch of Season 5, live as of today, October 13, and with something that has sparked plenty of debate: a $30 microtransaction that instantly unlocks every weapon.

Why does it matter? Because this isn't just any game. Battlefield 6 was the best-selling title of 2025 in the United States and celebrates its first anniversary this month. It had a blockbuster launch, but its player base has been shrinking, and everything happening today feels like a rescue operation: more accessibility, more content and more ways to skip the progression. For anyone who plays seriously, each of those pieces changes the game.

What you need to know

  • Battlefield 6 is available on Game Pass Ultimate on PC, console and cloud.
  • Season 5 launched on October 13 with new maps set in Las Vegas and Area 51.
  • A proper server browser is finally here, one of the most frequent requests since launch.
  • You can now buy an instant unlock of every weapon for $30.
  • Battlefield Studios has also announced a Game of the Year Edition of the game.

An anniversary that feels like a relaunch

The context GameSpot lays out is clear: the game sold like few others, but it couldn't hold on to its whole community. Putting it on Game Pass exactly one year later is a classic move to fill the servers again. Anyone who held off at the time because of the launch price can now try it at no extra cost if they already pay for Ultimate, and that usually translates into a spike in players over the following weeks.

Season 5 reinforces that strategy with two settings that, on paper, promise a distinct identity: a Las Vegas built for urban chaos and an Area 51 with plenty of visual potential. But the addition that matters most to us as a team is the server browser. For communities, clans and creators, being able to choose where and with whom you play is essential: it makes it easier to organize practice sessions, set up private matches with custom rules and find servers with good latency, which is key for those of us spread across the Americas and Europe.

The elephant in the room: paying to have it all

The $30 all-weapons unlock is the controversial part. In a shooter with progression, the arsenal is a big part of the long-term appeal; being able to skip it with your credit card changes the relationship between time invested and reward. The source doesn't go into further detail about the Game of the Year Edition, so we won't speculate on its content or price, although it's reasonable to wonder how it will coexist with this new purchase.

Our take

Here at the Underworld Lordz newsroom, we see it with a mix of relief and suspicion. Relief, because the server browser is late but it's finally here, and because Game Pass can breathe new life into a game that deserves it. More players mean shorter queues, more opponents to test yourself against and more eyes on the content creators make. If you've been wanting to make Battlefield videos or streams for a while, this is probably the best moment of the past year.

The suspicion comes from the paid unlock. It's true that in competitive play what counts is aim, communication and map knowledge, not having the weapon of the moment before anyone else. But it's also true that if a newcomer from Game Pass can access the entire arsenal by paying while another player has to invest dozens of hours, the sense of fairness takes a hit. And yes, we know the weapons aren't sold in a damage-upgrade shop, but the message it sends, that your time is worth less than your wallet, isn't one we like.

Our read: Battlefield Studios is pulling every lever at once. Some are excellent for the community and others are clearly about revenue. If Season 5 and the server browser deliver, the game can get its pulse back. If the conversation ends up revolving around what you have to pay, the Game Pass boost will fade fast.

What do you think?

Are you going back to Battlefield 6 now that it's on Game Pass, or have you already left it behind? And above all: would you pay $30 to have every weapon from minute one, or would you rather earn them by playing? Drop by the team chat or our Discord and tell us: is the paid unlock a harmless shortcut or a line that should never be crossed?
