The patch goes beyond a new mode: it also adds 13 legendary players to World Tour mode, including Fernando Torres, Keisuke Honda and Gerard Piqué. For a community that thrives on long seasons, matches with friends and fresh content, this matters. Kick-Off isn't trying to go head-to-head with EA's simulation, but it does want to make clear that Switch 2 has an alternative with its own identity.

Releasing free content right before EA Sports FC 27 takes over streams, tournaments and conversations is the best way to remind people there's another option, especially for those playing on Switch 2. It's marketing, yes, but marketing that translates into real content for players, and that's always a plus.

That said, we have to be honest about the competitive side. A co-op Leagues mode is fantastic for playing with friends, but it doesn't turn Kick-Off into a competitive scene title. The question we're asking is whether Konami has plans to give it more online longevity and more gameplay depth, or whether the project will remain a casual, social experience. We're also still not fully convinced by the model of a paid game that fills out its offering through patches: free content is welcome, but we wish certain modes had been there from the start.

For content creators, on the other hand, there's interesting material here. Four-player co-op sessions across a full season, challenges to sign Torres or Piqué and comparisons with whatever FC 27 brings all open the door to fresh formats, far from the usual saturation of virtual football.
