The Playtime Co. factory is opening its doors again, but this time you won't be going in alone. According to IGN Spain, Escape from Playtime, the co-op survival horror spin-off of the Poppy Playtime series, now has a date: it will arrive on Steam in Early Access on October 21. The project was unveiled at last month's Gamescom and, just a few weeks later, we already know when we'll be able to get our hands on it.
The date is no coincidence. Launching a multiplayer horror game ten days before Halloween is a clear play to land on the radar of streamers, creators and groups of friends looking for something to scream at on stream. And for a franchise that grew precisely on the back of videos, reactions and theories on social media, the jump to co-op is the most logical step it could take.

What you need to know
- What it is: Escape from Playtime is a multiplayer spin-off of Poppy Playtime, focused on co-op survival horror.
- When it's out: October 21, in Early Access on Steam.
- Where it comes from: it was announced at last month's Gamescom, so the reveal and the launch are very close together.
- How it plays: you and your friends take on the roles of characters who have to survive and escape; the idea is to flee as a group, not explore alone as in the main series.
- Confirmed platform: for now, only Steam has been mentioned; the source has no information on consoles or other storefronts.
From solo chapters to escaping as a group
Poppy Playtime made it big with a very specific formula: episodes released in stages, a dark story about a toy factory hiding something horrible, and creatures like Huggy Wuggy that became internet icons almost overnight. All of that worked in first person and solo, with the player trapped in a factory that was far too big for them.
Escape from Playtime changes the approach. It's no longer about living the campaign episode by episode, but about gathering a group and trying to get out of a hostile environment alive. That shift toward co-op survival puts the spin-off in territory that has been very good to content creators in recent years: short sessions, unpredictable situations and shared chaos that translates very well into clips.

Early Access: what it means for you
The game arriving in Early Access means that what we'll be playing on October 21 won't be the final version. The usual pattern with this format is for the studio to use the Early Access period to fine-tune the balance, add content and react to what the community asks for. In other words: you may find fewer maps or mechanics than there will be later on, as well as bugs that will get fixed over time.
For a group of friends who just want to get scared on Halloween, that's perfectly acceptable. For anyone looking for something stable to build a long series around on their channel, it's worth keeping in mind and not assuming the launch experience will be the same as it will be in a few months.
Our take
Here at the Underworld Lordz newsroom, we see this announcement with a mix of excitement and caution. The excitement is easy to explain: the Poppy Playtime universe has characters that half the internet already recognizes, and bringing them into a co-op survival game is exactly the kind of title that works on stream. If the multiplayer is well designed, it has all the ingredients to fill Discord servers and stream nights throughout the autumn.
The caution comes from the other side. Announcing at Gamescom and launching in Early Access barely two months later is a very tight schedule, and the co-op horror subgenre is saturated with games that start strong and fizzle out within weeks once the community discovers there's little beyond the initial scare. We'd like to see the game offer real replayability: a variety of situations, roles that matter within the group and reasons to come back beyond the brand name.
For content creators, our recommendation is clear: October 21 is a great window to ride the Halloween wave, but you should go in knowing it's a version still under construction. For more competitive players, this spin-off currently looks more like a social experience than a title with a future in tournaments, and that's fine: not everything has to be ranked.
