Gears of War: E-Day is already in the hands of part of the community. Players who bought the Premium Edition are already working through the campaign of this prequel thanks to early access. Everyone else, meaning those who bought the standard edition on Xbox Series or PC and Xbox Game Pass subscribers, has a date circled on the calendar: the official launch on October 6. According to Vandal, the game unlocks at 17:00 in mainland Spain. Preloading has also been available for days, so nobody has to waste a minute staring at a progress bar.
Why does it matter? Because this is the return of one of Xbox's most iconic franchises. And since the unlock happens simultaneously worldwide, it lands in the morning or around midday across much of the Americas, while in Europe it falls in the afternoon. Our community is spread across both sides of the Atlantic, so knowing the exact time is the difference between setting up a group session and finding out everything through spoilers.

What you need to know
- The campaign is already available in early access for Premium Edition owners.
- The standard edition officially launches on Xbox Series, PC and Xbox Game Pass on October 6.
- In mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands, you can play from 17:00 (CEST). In the Latin American countries listed by the source, it will be between 11:00 and 12:00, depending on the time zone.
- Preloading has been live for days.
- E-Day is a prequel in the Gears of War series.
Unlock times by region
The unlock is global and simultaneous, so the only thing that changes is the time on your clock. These are the times Vandal published for the territories included in its list:
| Country or region | Local time | Time zone |
|---|---|---|
| Spain (mainland and Balearic Islands) | 17:00 | CEST |
| Spain (Canary Islands) | 16:00 | WEST |
| Equatorial Guinea | 16:00 | WAT |
| Argentina | 12:00 | ART |
| Uruguay | 12:00 | UYT |
| Chile | 12:00 | CLT |
| Paraguay | 12:00 | PYT |
| United States (East Coast) | 11:00 | EDT |
| Venezuela | 11:00 | VET |
| Bolivia | 11:00 | BOT |
| Cuba | 11:00 | CDT |
The list doesn't cover every Spanish-speaking country. If yours isn't there, use US East Coast time or mainland Spain time as a reference and convert it to your time zone. Remember, it's the same moment everywhere on the planet.
Who's already playing and who's waiting
The setup is simple: the Premium Edition buys you time. If you have it, you're already in the campaign. If you went with the standard edition or are counting on Game Pass, you'll have to wait until the 6th. It's not a new formula in the industry, but it keeps showing up more and more in big launches, and it's worth keeping in mind when deciding which version to buy or whether the subscription is enough.

Our take
Here at the Underworld Lordz newsroom, we have mixed feelings about paid early access. We understand the appeal of being among the first in, but splitting the community into two speeds comes at a cost. Those who pay more get there first, and in a series where the campaign is a big part of the appeal, that means a lot of players will be dodging spoilers until their turn comes. If you're waiting for the 6th, our advice is simple: mute keywords on social media and avoid campaign streams until you've finished it.
For content creators, the situation is both an opportunity and a trap. Getting the game early lets you prepare guides, first impressions and videos that go live in time for the launch search spike. But it also pushes creators to buy the most expensive edition so they don't fall behind other channels. As a result, early access becomes an almost mandatory toll for anyone who makes a living from this. We don't think it's a good sign when an edition's price tag dictates the content calendar.
On the bright side, the game arriving on Game Pass at the official launch lowers the barrier to entry considerably, and having preloading available days in advance is a welcome touch. For those of us coming from the competitive side, October 6 is the real release date. That's when almost everyone starts from the same point, and when it makes sense to organize sessions, compare progress and play as a group. Our recommendation: get the download ready today, sync schedules with your squad and keep it simple.
What do you think?
Maybe you jumped in early with the Premium Edition, or maybe you're waiting with the preload done and Game Pass active. Either way, we want to hear from you. Is it worth paying more to play early, or would you rather wait for the official launch and experience it alongside everyone else? Let us know in the team chat or on our Discord.
