GIANTX, one series away from touching the sky: the LoL World Championship awaits the giants

GIANTX has the biggest opportunity of its recent history right in front of it. According to Marca eSports, the team is a single series away from securing its ticket to the League of Legends World Championship, a tournament it has never played under this banner. One knockout tie, one best-of-several matchup, separates the giants from taking a seat at the table where the most important title of the year is decided.
A club with roots in the Spanish-speaking scene being this close to Worlds is no minor story. For years, Spanish-speaking fans have followed the LoL World Championship as spectators, cheering on European, Korean or Chinese teams with whom they shared little more than a love for the game. Having GIANTX there would change the way many of us experience the event: with a name of our own to support, with players and a project that feel close to home, and with a real reason for the communities of the Americas and Europe to come together in front of the screen.

What you need to know
- GIANTX is just one series away from qualifying for the League of Legends World Championship, according to reporting from Marca eSports.
- It would be the giants' first appearance at Worlds under this club identity.
- The decisive tie condenses the entire season into a single matchup: there is no room for an off day.
- For Spanish-speaking fans, it would mean having a representative of their own at the most-watched tournament of the year in competitive LoL.
What playing Worlds means
Worlds is the pinnacle of the League of Legends calendar. It is the tournament that gathers the best teams from every region, the one that defines the moments remembered for years to come, and the one that shapes, for better or worse, the reputation of the organizations that compete in it. Qualifying guarantees absolutely nothing in terms of results, but it does put the club in a global showcase that no other event in the game can offer.
For GIANTX, the context carries extra weight. The project has gone through several cycles, with competitive ups and downs and changes of identity, and it has always had one piece of unfinished business: making the leap to the international stage in LoL. Reaching that decisive series already says a lot about the season they have put together: nobody gets to the doorstep of Worlds by accident. Now it is time to turn a good season into a historic milestone.
Why a single series changes everything
The Worlds qualification format is ruthless by nature. Months of work, of scrim blocks, of practice and of patch changes come down to a handful of games. That creates a tension that does not exist in the regular season: the team that best manages its nerves, its read of the draft and its game closing is usually the one that comes out alive. In these series, the difference is rarely mechanical skill and almost always mental.

Who this qualification affects
The first beneficiary, obviously, would be the club itself: international presence, exposure for its sponsors and a strong argument for attracting talent in the future. But the ripple effect goes much further. Spanish-speaking content creators would have a huge reason to cover Worlds from their own perspective, with a team that belongs to them emotionally. And the competitive players who dream of reaching the top level would see that the road from our scene to Worlds does exist, even if it is narrow and full of obstacles.
It also affects the rivals. When a team that is not a regular at these heights stands one series away from Worlds, it forces everyone else to look with more respect at the organizations growing outside the major power centers of competitive LoL.
Our take
From the Underworld Lordz editorial desk, we will say it plainly: we want to see GIANTX at Worlds. Not because our lives depend on it, but because the Spanish-speaking scene needs real standard-bearers on the global stage, and not just casters, streamers or fans. We have spent far too long being the community that fills the viewership numbers but rarely takes the stage. Having a team with our roots one step away is, in itself, good news worth celebrating without hesitation.
That said, it is worth keeping expectations in check. Qualifying for Worlds is a feat, yes, but the history of our clubs in international competitions has taught us that the problem was never getting there, but what to do once you arrive. If GIANTX gets the ticket, the bar cannot stop at the qualification photo. We will need to see a team ready to compete, with a solid draft and game management that does not crumble against higher-level opponents. Otherwise, the milestone will go down as a footnote and not as the start of something.
And one final thought for those of you who play and create content: moments like this are what drive an entire scene forward. Make the most of them. Cover the series, analyze it, debate it. If GIANTX gets through, it will be because for years there were people insisting that Spanish-language competition deserved a place. Ourselves included.
What do you think?
The series is there and Worlds is waiting. We believe GIANTX has a real shot, but also that the pressure will be enormous and that the club cannot afford to settle for simply taking part. Tell us in the team chat or on our Discord: do you see GIANTX winning this series and holding its own at Worlds, or do you think getting there would already be a big enough achievement?
