LoL Classic Keeps Growing: Mordekaiser, Yorick, Hecarim and Lucian Join the Roster

LoL Classic isn't slowing down. According to Movistar eSports, five new champions landed in the mode on October 7: Aatrox, Caitlyn, Irelia, Karma and Quinn. And Riot Games didn't stop there, because the roster keeps growing with four more heavy hitters: Mordekaiser, Yorick, Hecarim and Lucian.

Why does it matter? Because every expansion reshapes the ecosystem of a mode that thrives on its own identity. More champions mean more combinations, more counters and, above all, more reasons for the community to come back and give it another go. For competitive players and content creators, a roster that keeps moving is fertile ground: there's a meta to discover, guides to write and matches to break down.

What you need to know

  • On October 7, five champions arrived in LoL Classic: Aatrox, Caitlyn, Irelia, Karma and Quinn.
  • Riot keeps expanding the roster with Mordekaiser, Yorick, Hecarim and Lucian.
  • That makes nine additions in total across both batches, spread across very different profiles.
  • The core information comes from Movistar eSports; the original summary doesn't detail any other changes to the mode or a schedule for future additions.

The two batches, side by side

What's interesting about these additions isn't just how many champions are coming in, but which ones. If we look at the roles each one is usually played in League of Legends, the mix is fairly balanced: there are top lane fighters, marksmen, a flexible support and a classic jungler. Riot seems to be building the roster so that every position has real options, rather than just adding popular names.

Who it affects

At first glance, top laners are the biggest winners: Aatrox, Irelia, Mordekaiser and Yorick bring four very different playstyles to the same position, from the agile duelist to the one who applies pressure with summons. The jungle gets Hecarim, a champion with plenty of personality when it comes to starting fights, and the bot lane gains two marksmen with opposite approaches: Caitlyn's range control versus Lucian's aggression. Karma, for her part, adds flexibility for support players.

Our take

Here at the Underworld Lordz newsroom, we're glad to see Riot keeping up the pace. A mode like LoL Classic only survives if people have reasons to come back, and nothing sparks more conversation than a new champion on the select screen. The selection also makes sense: these aren't filler additions, but champions with a clear identity and loyal communities behind them. Yorick's arrival, for example, is going to make a very specific and very vocal group of players happy, and that's community building too.

That said, we do have our reservations. Packing so many options into the top lane could tip the scales if it isn't paired with adjustments to the other positions. And the available information is thin: we don't know whether these arrivals come with balance changes, or what the roadmap looks like. Competitive players like to plan ahead, and adding champions without explaining the direction leaves the impression that the mode is moving forward one announcement at a time. We'd like to see more transparency from Riot.

For content creators, on the other hand, this is a golden moment. The first few weeks after an expansion are when guides, first impressions and matchups get searched the most. If you make videos or stream, our advice is clear: try them out now, document what works and what doesn't, and get into the conversation before anyone else. The meta of a freshly expanded roster doesn't last forever.

What do you think?

Nine new champions in a short span gives us plenty to debate. Do you think Riot is getting the selection right, or are there other names you're missing? And most importantly: out of Mordekaiser, Yorick, Hecarim and Lucian, which one do you think will break the mode first? Let us know in the team chat or drop by our Discord to discuss it.
