Mycopunk leaves early access on October 20 and lands straight on PS Plus

Mycopunk now has a date to shed its early access label. According to Vandal, Devolver Digital and the studio Pigeons at Play have confirmed that version 1.0 of the co-op shooter will arrive on PC on October 20, the same day the game makes its debut on PS5. And there is one detail that changes the equation quite a bit: PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers will have it available in the service's catalog from that very day.

This matters for two reasons. The first is that in just a few months Mycopunk has earned a spot among the most unusual co-op games on Steam, with a tone and a concept unlike almost anything else in the genre. The second is that landing straight onto a subscription service, right at the moment of its full launch, can multiply its player base overnight. For a community like ours, with squads spread across the Americas and Europe, that means more people to fill out the squads.

What you need to know

  • Version 1.0 of Mycopunk arrives on PC on October 20, and the game launches on PS5 that same day.
  • It will be included in the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium catalog from launch.
  • The game entered early access on Steam on July 10, 2025 and has been receiving updates since then.
  • It has racked up more than 4,000 user reviews with an 88% positive rating, earning it the Very Positive label on Valve's store.
  • It is a mission-based FPS, playable solo or in co-op for up to four players.

Robots, fungi and a corporation in the middle

Mycopunk's premise is as simple as it is striking. You control a member of the New Atlas Hazard Crew, a group of robots that the SAXON corporation sends to a planet overrun by a fungal threat. Your job is to investigate what is going on and, above all, wipe out the infestation with plenty of lead. The design revolves around specific missions rather than an open world, which fits perfectly with short sessions among friends: you drop in, complete the objective, drop out and repeat.

Being able to play solo is good news for anyone who wants to learn the mechanics without pressure, but the heart of the game is clearly in four-player co-op. That number is the same one used by other benchmarks in the genre, so team dynamics (roles, covering fire, communication) carry over naturally for any squad used to this kind of title.

From Steam to Sony's console

Mycopunk's journey is the classic one for an indie that bets first on early access to polish the game alongside the community. Since July 2025 it has been adding updates and, judging by that 88% positive score across more than 4,000 reviews, the feedback has been mostly good. It is not a blockbuster figure, but it is a sign that the game has a solid foundation and a clear identity.

The jump to PS5 with a direct launch on PS Plus is the most interesting move. For a small studio, entering a subscription service's catalog means immediate visibility in front of millions of players who might never have paid for a niche shooter. In exchange, the risk is obvious: if version 1.0 arrives with performance issues or thin content, the wave of new players can quickly turn into a wave of criticism.

Our take

Here at the Underworld Lordz newsroom, we view this move favorably. Co-op shooters are enjoying a golden moment and there is room for games with a personality of their own, and Mycopunk has plenty of that. For competitive players it will not be a ranked or tournament title, but it is an excellent squad game for unwinding between serious sessions and, along the way, practicing communication and coordination, which never hurt.

For content creators, the arrival on PS Plus is a clear opportunity. A game with an eye-catching art style, available at no extra cost to a huge portion of the PS5 player base, is exactly the kind of title that generates clips, streams and spontaneous collaborations. If the launch delivers, the October window could be very rewarding for anyone who shows up with content ready.

That said, we are not committing to anything just yet. Leaving early access does not guarantee the game is truly finished, and the fact that the source does not detail what version 1.0 will bring leaves us with more questions than answers. We want to see how much new content arrives on the 20th and whether the studio has a clear long-term support plan, because a co-op game lives or dies by its active community.

What do you think?

Mycopunk arrives on October 20 on PC and PS5, and goes straight into the PS Plus catalog, so the excuse to put a squad together and try it will be hard to avoid. Let us know in the team chat or on our Discord: are you in to clear out fungi with us, or will you wait to see how version 1.0 lands?
