One of the most frequent complaints from the Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 community since the game launched in 2024 has finally received an official response. According to IGN España, the game's director has admitted that Chaos enemies are harder to fight than the Tyranids. He also confirmed that the studio plans to do something about it.
It may sound like a minor tuning detail, but it isn't. When one enemy faction is consistently more demanding than another, the experience loses consistency. Missions feel uneven, squads pick content based on which enemy they'll be facing, and the difficulty curve stops making sense. The fact that the director himself is acknowledging it publicly shows that the team is listening, and in an industry where the obvious is often denied, that deserves recognition.

What you need to know
- Since the game launched in 2024, players have pointed out that Chaos is harder to face than the Tyranids.
- The director of Space Marine 2 has confirmed that the community's perception is correct.
- The studio plans to introduce changes, although neither their scope nor their timing has been detailed yet.
- The game has already earned cult classic status, so any adjustment affects a loyal and demanding player base.
An imbalance the community has been flagging for a long time
The source doesn't explain the specific technical reasons behind this difference in difficulty, so it's best not to speculate with numbers nobody has published. What is clear is that this isn't an isolated impression. It's a feeling shared by a large share of those who have been playing since day one, both solo and in co-op.
Our take is that the problem comes down to each faction's identity. The Tyranids fit the fantasy of facing a tide of enemies and coming out in one piece thanks to your armor and your arsenal. Chaos, on the other hand, represents a more organized enemy, one that's closer to you. That difference in concept is good for variety, but if it isn't properly calibrated, one type of match ends up being a walk in the park and the other a punishment. And that's exactly what the community has been saying for months.
Who it affects
- Co-op players: they're the first to notice when a mission becomes unfair and when the problem is the team itself.
- Competitive players and speedrunners: any tweak to the difficulty changes routes, times and strategies, so the game will need to be studied all over again.
- Content creators: guides, builds and tip videos on how to survive Chaos could become outdated as soon as the patch drops.

Our take
Here at Underworld Lordz, we appreciate the director's honesty. Acknowledging a problem head-on is the first step toward fixing it, and the Space Marine 2 community has been asking for exactly that for a long time. Even so, we can't overlook the fact that this complaint has been around since 2024. For a game so focused on co-op and replayability, that's a long time to live with an imbalance everyone could see.
We're also not fully convinced by an announcement that comes without details. Promising changes is fine, but without knowing what will be touched or when, the community is left waiting. Our main concern is that the fix will simply be to nerf Chaos until it has no bite left. For those looking for a serious challenge, a demanding Chaos is part of the appeal. Ideally, the studio would fine-tune what feels frustrating or unfair, such as the constant pressure or the lack of time to react, instead of flattening the difficulty. It would also be worth looking at whether the Tyranids need a bit more bite.
For creators and competitive players, we're asking for one basic thing: clear, detailed patch notes. If values change, say so. That makes it possible to update guides accurately, compare times before and after the adjustment, and avoid weeks of rumors. Space Marine 2 has earned its cult status, and that's precisely why it deserves a rebalance worthy of it.
What do you think?
Are you one of those who suffer every time Chaos shows up on screen, or do you actually enjoy that extra difficulty? We'd love to know whether you'd rather they tone it down or keep the challenge and balance everything else. Do you think the studio should lower Chaos's difficulty or raise the Tyranids'?
