Rebel Wolves, the studio founded by CD Projekt RED veterans, has detailed what's coming in The Blood of Dawnwalker update 1.1, its open-world action RPG set in a medieval Europe ruled by vampires. As reported by Vandal, the patch arrives next week and will include more than 1,100 improvements and fixes, along with new features that answer direct requests from the community: an additional difficulty setting, combat changes and the option to redistribute your character's skills.

This is no ordinary patch. The game launched on September 3 on PS5, Xbox Series and PC, and in just over a month it has become one of the most talked-about RPGs of the year. The fact that the studio is reaching October with an update this size, announced well in advance, says a lot about how it wants to handle the game's lifespan: listening, fixing and expanding. For anyone playing it in depth, and for those who stream or review it, 1.1 could significantly change how you approach a playthrough.

What you need to know

  • Update 1.1 will be available next week on every platform the game launched on.
  • It includes more than 1,100 improvements and fixes of varying scope.
  • It adds a new difficulty setting and tweaks to combat and exploration.
  • It will let you respec your character's skills, one of the most requested features.
  • Among the headline additions is the Elixir of Mental Rebirth, one of the features the studio is putting front and center.

What changes and who it affects

The bulk of the patch is split across four areas: combat, exploration, difficulty and character customization. Rebel Wolves had already teased that something big was coming in October, so the news isn't so much that the update exists as the level of detail the studio is now going into about its changes. A figure of over 1,100 adjustments points to an extensive polishing effort, the kind that doesn't always show up in a trailer but definitely shows over hours of play.

The ability to reallocate skills is probably what will get the community talking the most. Until now, a bad call in the progression tree meant either living with it or starting over. With 1.1, experimenting with builds is no longer a gamble. And while the available information doesn't cover every detail, the Elixir of Mental Rebirth appears to be one of the core pieces of these new features, so it's worth keeping an eye on once the patch goes live.

The new difficulty setting, meanwhile, is aimed squarely at players who have already mastered the combat system and want a bigger challenge. Combined with the changes to fights, it could shift the pace of encounters and force players to rethink strategies that have worked without a hitch so far.

Background

Rebel Wolves was born with the label of "the studio made up of former The Witcher 3 developers," and that comes with sky-high expectations. The Blood of Dawnwalker is its calling card, and the studio seems to understand that launch was only the first chapter. Its post-launch support model, with big patches and open communication, is quite reminiscent of how other RPGs from the same school matured.

Our take

Here at Underworld Lordz, we're clear on this: respecs should have been there from day one. In an action RPG where combat takes center stage, punishing experimentation is a design flaw, not a defining trait. Getting it now is good news, but it's also an implicit admission that the community was right. Credit to Rebel Wolves for listening; better still would have been not needing the reminder.

That said, the package looks very promising for competitive players and creators. A new difficulty is pure fuel for challenges, speedruns and content like "no deaths" or "broken build on max difficulty." And the freedom to rework skills multiplies the possibilities for guides, comparisons and tier lists. If you make content about this game, 1.1 is practically a relaunch: much of what's been published about builds could become outdated within days.

Our reservation is the number itself. Over 1,100 improvements sounds spectacular, but a big number doesn't guarantee quality: what matters is whether the combat changes feel better and whether the new difficulty is genuinely demanding or simply inflates enemy health. Until we try it, we're staying cautious. Still, the direction is the right one, and a studio that responds this quickly deserves the benefit of the doubt.
