WARDOGS isn't slowing down. BULKHEAD, with Team17 as publisher, has just launched Season 2 of its 100-player tactical FPS, barely a month after its Early Access debut on Steam. According to Areajugones, this is the game's first major update since arriving on the platform, and it brings dynamic weather, new weapons and significant gameplay changes.
Why does it matter? Because an Early Access game decides much of its future in its first few weeks. Shipping a full season this early shows the studio has a plan and wants to keep the community hooked. And the update isn't just about adding content: it also touches the game's core. When the core changes, the way you compete changes too.
What You Need to Know
- WARDOGS Season 2 is out now and is the first major update since the game's Steam Early Access debut last month.
- The game is a 100-player tactical FPS developed by BULKHEAD and published by Team17.
- The headline addition is dynamic weather, which adds variety to every match.
- New weapons join the available arsenal.
- The update includes major gameplay changes that go beyond just adding content.
Context: An Early Access Moving Fast
Early Access is usually a slow phase: small patches, performance tweaks and the occasional new map. WARDOGS has taken a different approach and is already delivering a full season in its first month. Areajugones describes it as a title that keeps on growing and that has reached this point with a positive reception, which is no easy feat in a genre as crowded as large-scale tactical shooters.
Backing it is Team17, a publisher with a track record of bringing indie studio projects to market. That pairing of a studio with its own ideas and a well-resourced publisher tends to pay off when the content roadmap is delivered on time. Season 2 is the first proof that they can do it.
What Changes and Who It Affects
Dynamic weather is the most eye-catching addition and probably the one that will have the biggest impact on how the game is played. In a tactical FPS, visibility, sound and the pace of engagements are everything, so any environmental variable can shift decisions on rotations, positioning and weapon choice. The new weapons expand loadout options, and the gameplay changes force everyone to rethink what they thought they had figured out.
Who does it affect most? Players who had already learned the game and had their routines locked in. For them, this season is almost a partial reset. For those who hadn't tried it yet, on the other hand, it's a great time to jump in: everyone is back to learning.
Our Take
Here at Underworld Lordz we see this as a good sign, with a few caveats. BULKHEAD making moves this quickly shows ambition, and that's exactly what an Early Access game needs to avoid being a passing fad. Dynamic weather could also be a smart addition if it's well balanced: it forces you to adapt on the fly and rewards reading the match over memorised routines. As competitive players, we love games that make us think.
That said, we also need to be critical. Randomness and competition don't always mix well. If the weather ends up deciding matches more than team skill does, the competitive scene will suffer. The same goes for the gameplay changes: overhauling a game's core a month after launch can frustrate players who had already put hours into mastering it. Early Access justifies experimentation, but the community needs to know where the game is headed to decide whether it's worth training seriously.
For content creators, the picture is clearer: a new season with a shifting meta is a goldmine. Weapon guides, tests in different weather conditions and before-and-after comparisons are formats that perform really well in these early weeks. If you're thinking about betting on WARDOGS for your channel, now is the time to start.
What Do You Think?
Season 2 could establish WARDOGS as a tactical shooter worth watching, or all this change in such a short time could end up taking its toll. We'll be following it closely. Do you think dynamic weather adds tactical depth, or does it bring in too much randomness for the game to be taken seriously at a competitive level? Let us know in the team chat or on our Discord.
