Warzone with MW4: Your Old Camos Are Being Left Behind

Bad news for anyone who has spent years polishing their camo collection: Activision has confirmed that weapon camos earned in previous Call of Duty titles will not carry over to the version of Warzone based on Modern Warfare 4. The news, reported by Dexerto, settles one of the questions the community has been asking most often ever since talk began about integrating the new game into the battle royale.

Why does something that is, in theory, purely cosmetic matter so much? Because in Warzone, a camo is much more than a paint job. It's visible proof of hours of grinding, completed challenges and, in many cases, money spent on store bundles. For competitive players and content creators, the weapon you carry is part of your identity, both in-game and on screen. With this decision, a big chunk of that history gets left behind when the update arrives.

What You Need to Know

  • Activision has confirmed that weapon camos from previous Call of Duty games will not carry over to the Modern Warfare 4 version of Warzone.
  • The confirmation comes directly from the game's developers, according to Dexerto.
  • The change affects the version of Warzone that integrates with MW4, not the previous games themselves.
  • Players who invested time or money unlocking camos in earlier titles won't be able to show them off in this new chapter of the battle royale.

What Changes and Who It Affects

Every time a new Call of Duty is integrated into Warzone, it effectively means a partial reset of the ecosystem: new weapons, a new meta and new progression. What's now clear is that this reset also extends to the cosmetic side of weapons. If your way of playing Warzone involved bringing out your most exclusive camo every match, you'll have to start building a new collection within the MW4 ecosystem.

The hardest hit are, without a doubt, the players who invest the most in the game. First, the completionist, who chases mastery camos and the longest challenges. Second, anyone who bought cosmetic content thinking it would last beyond a single title. And third, content creators, who use those finishes as a signature look in streams, clips and thumbnails. For all of them, the message is the same: what you unlocked before has an expiration date in Warzone.

It's worth noting that the source doesn't specify what will happen to other items such as operators, weapon blueprints or attachments, or exactly when the change will take effect. So it's best not to jump to conclusions about the rest of your inventory until Activision shares more official information.

Our Take

Here at Underworld Lordz, we understand the technical and commercial logic: every new game brings its own weapon system, and carrying over years of cosmetic content from different titles is no small task. It's also clear that a clean slate pushes players to buy and grind all over again, which is exactly what any season-based business model is after. But understanding a decision doesn't mean applauding it.

The underlying issue is one of trust. Warzone is sold as an ongoing platform, a place you come back to year after year. If what you earn on that platform vanishes with every integration, players start asking themselves an uncomfortable question: why invest in something that won't last? That feeling could take its toll in the medium term, especially among those who spend money in the store. Competitively, the impact on performance is zero, but it does affect pride and motivation, and those count too.

For content creators, on the other hand, we see an opportunity. A collection reset is fertile ground for guides, unlock challenges and races to be the first to earn MW4's toughest camos. Those who adapt quickly and turn the grind into content will come out ahead. Even so, we'd like Activision to be clearer and earlier with announcements like this: players deserve to know what they keep before they spend, not after.

What Do You Think?

We know there are people on the team who show off their camos every match, and others who couldn't care less about looks as long as they win the gunfight. That's why we want to hear from you: do you think it's fair to start from scratch with camos in MW4's Warzone, or should Activision respect what you've already unlocked?
