Zombies in Tarkov for Halloween: Battlestate promises a big, surprising event

Halloween is knocking on Norvinsk's door again. According to Vandal, Battlestate Games has already started showing off what it has in store for the holiday in Escape from Tarkov, and the chosen theme is the one almost everyone expected: zombies. Nikita Buyanov, the game's director, posted a series of screenshots on his X account featuring gloomy landscapes and strange creatures that leave little room for interpretation.
Why does this matter to us at Underworld Lordz? Because in Tarkov, seasonal events are not just a change of scenery. They alter the way the game is played, shake up the flea market economy and set the schedule for any squad that takes the game seriously. And when Buyanov himself describes the content as "big" and "surprising", it is worth paying attention before the raid fills up with the infected.

What you need to know
- Zombie theme all but confirmed: the images shared by Buyanov show dark environments and anomalous beings, clearly designed with Halloween in mind.
- A heavyweight promise: the game's director calls the content "big" and "surprising", without going into specifics.
- Labs in the spotlight: based on what was shown, the event appears to take place in the laboratories, although Vandal stresses that nothing has been confirmed on that front.
- Racing against the clock: the Battlestate team is rushing to have it ready in time for the date.
- The usual anticipation: these events tend to bring new items and are one of the most eagerly awaited moments for the community every year.
What we know and what is still up in the air
For now, the available information is more visual than written. What Buyanov posted is a set of screenshots with a very distinctive aesthetic: grim surroundings, low light and figures that do not match the usual Scavs or PMCs. From there, Vandal's reading is that the most likely setting is The Lab, the TerraGroup complex that is already one of the tensest maps in the game.
What we do not know is practically everything else: whether it will be a new area inside the laboratories, a temporary game mode, changes to AI behavior or a combination of all of the above. There is also no exact activation date or announced duration. The only clue about the timeline is that Battlestate admits it is working against the clock, which suggests the content will arrive very close to Halloween night itself.
Who it affects and why events carry so much weight in Tarkov
For anyone who plays Tarkov seriously, a seasonal event changes three things. First, the risk: new threats on the map alter routes, rotation timings and the way zones are cleared. Second, the economy: the exclusive items that usually come with these dates quickly become a bargaining chip and send the market soaring. Third, activity: some players only come back to the game when something special happens, and that fills raids with people of wildly different levels and gear.
If the setting turns out to be Labs, the impact is even greater. We are talking about a restricted-access map with a very specific audience and a brutal learning curve. Filling it with the infected could turn it into the most fun place in the game or a death trap for anyone who has not mastered it.
Our take
Here at the Underworld Lordz newsroom we welcome Battlestate's continued commitment to Halloween, but we are not going to applaud just yet. Calling something "big" and "surprising" while showing nothing more than a few atmospheric screenshots is marketing, not information. We would like to know how long the event will last, whether it will have permanent rewards and, above all, whether it will break the balance of a wipe that many people have spent weeks invested in.
We are especially concerned by the line about racing against the clock. In a game with Tarkov's technical track record, rushing content to hit a specific date usually translates into bugs, disconnects and emergency patches. For a competitive team that organizes scheduled sessions, that is a real problem. We would rather have an event that arrives a couple of days late and works than one that lands on time and falls apart in the first raid.
For content creators, on the other hand, this news is pure gold. Zombies, Labs and darkness are the perfect combination for viral clips, tense livestreams and reaction videos. If you are a streamer, our advice is to block out Halloween week and have your setup ready now. If you are a competitive player, it might be worth waiting a couple of days for the dust to settle and for the community to figure out what works and what does not.
What do you think?
Seasonal events always split the Tarkov community between those who appreciate the variety and those who prefer the pure, hardcore loop of the extraction shooter. At Underworld Lordz we have opinions to suit every taste and we want to hear yours in the team chat or on our Discord: are you up for fighting zombies in Labs, or do you think Battlestate should leave the wipe alone until the end?
