BlazBlue Central Fiction comes to PS5 with rollback, crossplay and Spanish text

Almost ten years after its release, BlazBlue Central Fiction is back at the center of the conversation. Arc System Works has announced a native version for PlayStation 5 that, as reported by Vandal, will ship with rollback netcode for multiplayer and crossplay with the Steam version. On top of that, an update will add four new languages, and one of them is Spanish.
Why does it matter? Because this is one of the most technical and beloved 2D fighting games in the genre, and for years it has been hard to recommend to new players because of two very specific barriers: online play that didn't live up to today's standards, and a dense story that was never translated into Spanish. This announcement tackles both problems at once, and that could give the series a second competitive life.

What you need to know
- Native PS5 version: don't expect major visual changes; the focus is on gameplay.
- Rollback and crossplay: the PS5 edition will feature rollback netcode and crossplay with the Steam version.
- Four new languages, Spanish among them, along with new training mode options, also arriving as an update for other versions.
- Trinity Glassfille, the DLC fighter announced this summer for PS4 and PC, will be the first addition to the roster in almost a decade.
- Arc System Works clarifies that Trinity's release is separate from both the PS5 launch and the language update.
A classic that refuses to age
Central Fiction launched in Japan in 2015, first in arcades and on PS3, PS4 and PC, and later, in 2019, made the jump to Switch. Since then, the community has kept it alive through sheer passion, even though the series hasn't had a new mainline entry. The fact that the developer is investing in it again, new character included, is a clear sign that it still sees value in this community.

Trinity Glassfille and the separate schedule
Trinity Glassfille is an exceptional alchemist and a key figure in the series' story who, until now, had never been playable. Her arrival as DLC for PS4 and PC already built up plenty of hype this summer. That said, Arc System Works stresses that her release won't necessarily coincide with the PS5 version or the language patch, so it's best not to lump the three together when making plans.
Our take
Here at the Underworld Lordz newsroom, we're clear on this: rollback is the real headline. In a fighting game, netcode is everything; without it, practicing against opponents from other countries is frustrating and online tournaments lose credibility. For a community spread across the Americas and Europe like ours, crossplay with Steam also multiplies the number of available opponents, which is vital for a niche title where matchmaking can dry up fast.
Spanish support also matters more than it might seem. BlazBlue has one of the most convoluted stories in the genre, and many Spanish-speaking players gave up on it because they couldn't follow what was going on. For content creators, this opens the door to guides, lore breakdowns and story mode series that everyone can enjoy. And the training mode improvements are exactly what players want when they're looking to polish combos and specific situations.
Now for the critical part: the announcement is welcome, but it lacks specifics. There's no PS5 release date in the available information, and splitting the schedules for Trinity, the languages and the new version could cause confusion. It's also unclear whether older versions will get the same treatment online. We want to believe Arc System Works is serious about this revival, but we'll judge it once we can play it.
What do you think?
Are rollback and Spanish support enough to bring BlazBlue back to the scene, or is it too little, too late? Let us know in the team chat or on our Discord: would you be up for putting hours into Central Fiction on PS5 and setting up an internal tournament with the community?
