Electronic Arts has dropped a hint the Star Wars community has been waiting years for. As reported by IGN Spain, in a lengthy letter about the company's future, EA confirmed that DICE and Respawn Entertainment are collaborating on a new project. The document does not say which game it is, but the combination of both studios has been enough for fans to assume we are talking about Star Wars Battlefront 3.
The news matters because these are not just any two studios. DICE is the home of Battlefield and the studio behind both modern Battlefront games, while Respawn has become EA's go-to studio for Star Wars with the Jedi series. Having both work together on something new opens the door to a large-scale multiplayer shooter in a universe many of us have been asking to see return for a long time.

What you need to know
- Official confirmation, but no name. EA acknowledges in its letter that DICE and Respawn are developing a joint project, but it does not reveal a title, setting, or date.
- Battlefield carries on. In the same document, the company confirms it is working on new Battlefield entries, so the project with Respawn is in addition to that line, not a replacement for it.
- Fans are pointing to Battlefront 3. The most widespread theory is that the collaboration will result in a new Star Wars Battlefront entry, something the community has been demanding for years.
- Everything else is speculation. There are no platforms, no launch window, and no gameplay details. Any information circulating beyond this does not come from EA.
Why everyone is thinking Battlefront 3
The community's reasoning is not far-fetched. DICE made Star Wars Battlefront and Star Wars Battlefront II, two titles that, despite their controversies, built a loyal player base that is still active today. Respawn, for its part, has spent years proving with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor that it understands the license and knows how to work within the limits Lucasfilm sets. Combine one studio's experience in large-scale combat with the other's track record in design and storytelling, and the sum points almost inevitably to a galaxy far, far away.
On top of that, Respawn is no stranger to competitive shooters: it is the studio behind Apex Legends and the Titanfall series, two benchmarks for movement and gunplay. That mix of skills is exactly what Battlefront II lacked, a game with outstanding audiovisual presentation but a competitive design that never quite came together.
What EA has not said
It is worth keeping our feet on the ground. EA's letter talks about a joint project and nothing more. It does not mention Star Wars, it does not mention Battlefront, and it gives no date. Everything being discussed on social media comes from reading between the lines, however logical it may seem. There are other possible scenarios: a game with a different license, a Battlefield with Respawn's touch, or something completely different. Until EA or the studios themselves announce it, Battlefront 3 remains a wish, not a reality.
Our take
At Underworld Lordz we have mixed feelings. On one hand, the idea of a modern Battlefront with Respawn's gunplay strikes us as the best thing that could happen to Star Wars multiplayer. Battlefront II had memorable matches, but it was never a game built for the competitive scene: inconsistent balance, modes that were unclear for spectators, and a progression system that punished anyone who wanted to take it seriously. If Respawn brings the polish of Apex and DICE brings the scale of Battlefield, we could finally have a Star Wars shooter that is playable in tournaments and appealing to content creators.
On the other hand, trust in EA is a limited resource. The company carries a history of cancelled projects, restructurings, and rushed launches that have already burned out a good part of the community. The fact that DICE has to handle new Battlefield entries and an additional project at the same time also makes us raise an eyebrow: splitting teams rarely comes free in terms of quality or deadlines. We would rather see an announcement with a date and gameplay before celebrating anything.
For the competitive players and streamers reading us, the advice is clear: get excited, but in moderation. A well-made Battlefront 3 would be a gift for the Spanish-speaking scene, with spectacular matches and a license that draws an audience on its own. But today all we have is one sentence in a corporate letter, and you cannot build a roster or plan a content calendar on that.
What do you think?
The community has already decided this is Battlefront 3, but EA has not said a single word about it yet. Do you think DICE and Respawn are preparing Battlefront's return, or are we building castles in the air again? Tell us in the team chat or on our Discord.
