Xbox is turning 25 and Microsoft wants everyone to notice. As reported by Gamereactor Spain, the celebration includes a special-edition console in translucent green that pays tribute to the original Xbox, and it pulls the company's entire family of brands into the party along the way. Since Call of Duty has belonged to Xbox for a few years now, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is joining in with a very particular pre-order bonus: a blueprint for the M4 assault rifle called "Inner Circuit".
The key is in the fine print. The blueprint comes to every platform, but the translucent "OG Green" finish, the one that directly references the commemorative console, is reserved for those who pre-order the game on Xbox Series X/S. On PC, PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2, the same blueprint shows up with a milsim design. It's a cosmetic detail, sure, but it opens an uncomfortable debate about exclusivity within a franchise that Activision had promised to keep more restrained this year.

What you need to know
- Microsoft will launch a special-edition translucent green Xbox for the brand's 25th anniversary.
- Modern Warfare 4 includes a pre-order bonus: the "Inner Circuit" blueprint for the M4.
- On Xbox Series X/S the blueprint sports the translucent "OG Green"; on PC, PS5 and Switch 2 it comes with a milsim finish.
- The blueprint's style clashes with Activision's recent promise that this year's entry would leave visual "nonsense" behind.
- The information comes from Gamereactor Spain, which in turn picks up the official announcement of the anniversary campaign.
What changes and who it affects
First things first: nobody misses out on the weapon. Wherever you pre-order, you'll get the M4 blueprint. What changes is the look, and in Call of Duty the look matters more than it seems. A blueprint with a translucent finish stands out in the killcam, in the clips people post on social media and in the lobby, and that's precisely the value Microsoft wants to give its own ecosystem. It's pure marketing: if you want the green that harks back to 2001, you buy it on the console celebrating its birthday.
Second: the timing is delicate. Activision had said that Modern Warfare 4 would move away from the visual excesses that caused so much noise in previous entries, with skins that had little to do with a military shooter. A semi-transparent rifle with exposed circuitry isn't exactly campaign camo. Gamereactor Spain points it out directly: the design seems to push the limits of that promise before the game is even out.
Background
Platform-tied pre-order bonuses are nothing new in the industry, but since Microsoft's acquisition of Activision, any gesture of this kind gets put under the microscope. Microsoft has insisted that Call of Duty will remain multiplatform on equal terms, and this blueprint honors that functionally. Still, it draws a line: the content is the same, the pretty version is not.

Our take
Here at the Underworld Lordz newsroom we'll say it plainly: we get the tribute, but we don't like the message. Our community is split across PC, PlayStation and Xbox, and a good share of our competitive players live on PC for performance and peripherals. Having the same blueprint look "premium" on only one platform is a small first step, but it's a first step. Today it's a color; tomorrow it could be a bundle, an event or an early-access window.
For the team's content creators, the issue is even more practical. Clips sell on visuals, and a translucent retro-green M4 is exactly the kind of detail that drives views. If that hook depends on which console you pre-ordered on, the community's conversation is being fragmented for reasons that have nothing to do with playing better. And if it also contradicts the promise of a more toned-down Call of Duty in the looks department, Activision is undercutting its own message before launch.
That said, let's be fair: it's a pre-order cosmetic, it doesn't affect balance or competitive play, and any serious player is going to care far more about time to kill and netcode than the color of their rifle. Our criticism isn't aimed at the weapon, but at the direction it hints at.
What do you think?
Some on the team have already said the translucent green gives them pure nostalgia; others see it as exclusivity in disguise that opens a dangerous door. Let us know in the team chat or on our Discord: are you fine with Xbox getting the special version of the M4, or do you think Call of Duty should look exactly the same on every platform?
