We finally have a date to see Forza Horizon 6 running on PlayStation 5. According to IGN Spain, a new trailer has confirmed that Microsoft's arcade racer will land on Sony's console on January 26, 2027. And it won't be arriving alone: its first major expansion will launch that same day, meaning PS5 players will get the base game and its first big content pack in one go.
The news matters for what it represents beyond a date on the calendar. For years, Forza Horizon has been one of the series most closely tied to the Xbox and PC ecosystem. Microsoft bringing it to the rival platform, and with extra content from day one at that, confirms that the company's multiplatform strategy is no longer a one-off exception but the rule. For the racing community, and for those who compete or create content around this genre, the board has changed.

What you need to know
- Date confirmed: Forza Horizon 6 will arrive on PS5 on January 26, 2027, according to the trailer reported by IGN Spain.
- Launch expansion: the PS5 debut will be accompanied by the game's first major expansion, available that same day.
- New platform, same wheels: this is the same Forza Horizon 6, now accessible to a player base that had been left out until now.
- Details still pending: the published information does not specify the exact contents of the expansion or the pricing terms of the PS5 launch.
What changes and who it affects
The move affects, first and foremost, PS5 users who had long been eyeing one of the most celebrated driving series in the industry. Until now, enjoying a Horizon game meant owning an Xbox or a PC. From late January 2027, that barrier disappears, and players jump in with an expansion in tow, which makes the PS5 launch package a far more complete offering than a simple port usually is.
Secondly, it affects the existing community on Xbox and PC. The arrival of a new platform usually translates into more players on the servers, more rivals in online events, and more activity in the social modes that define the series. It is the ideal scenario for the franchise to come alive just as its first major add-on content arrives.
What we still don't know
The source does not go into detail about what that first expansion will include, nor does it clarify whether it will be sold separately or be part of a specific edition. There is also no information on whether there will be cross-play between PS5 and the other platforms, a key point for any competitive community. Until Microsoft and Playground Games confirm the specifics, any speculation should be taken with caution.
Our take
Here at the Underworld Lordz editorial team, we have mixed feelings about this announcement. On the one hand, it is excellent news for the health of the genre. Forza Horizon is not a pure simulator, but it is one of the driving games with the biggest community built around lap times, weekly challenges, and content creation. Its arrival on PS5 means more people playing, more clips circulating, and more rivals to measure yourself against. For the creators on our team, January 2027 opens a clear window: a new audience discovering the game for the first time and looking for guides, comparisons, and gameplay.
On the other hand, we can't ignore that launching the game with its first major expansion included on the same day leaves a bittersweet taste for those who bought it earlier on Xbox or PC. If PS5 users get a more complete package right out of the gate, the question is unavoidable: will the PS5 version be the definitive edition? Microsoft should clearly explain how that content fits in on each platform to avoid the feeling that early adopters got the worst deal.
And there is a third point that worries us more than any other: fragmentation. If there is no true cross-play between platforms, we will end up with two communities competing in parallel, with separate leaderboards and events that never overlap. For a team like ours, with players across the Americas and Europe spread between consoles and PC, that would be a step backwards. We welcome Horizon reaching more people, but we demand that it arrives in a way that lets all of us compete together.
What do you think?
Forza Horizon 6 is coming to PS5 with a date, a trailer, and an expansion included, and the debate is already underway in the community. Do you think launching it alongside its first major expansion on the same day is a smart move that benefits everyone, or a slap in the face to those already playing on Xbox and PC?
