Polyphony Digital has set a date for the first part of Spec IV, one of the biggest free updates Gran Turismo 7 has ever received. According to Vandal, the content lands on October 15 on PS5 and PS4, and it's only half of the package: a second instalment will complete it in December. The headline addition is a track that's brand new to the series, Sportsland SUGO, joined by six new vehicles and several extra features.

Why does it matter? Because GT7 is still the benchmark sim on console, and every new track reshapes the online race calendar, the hot laps and the challenges content creators put together. A Japanese circuit with significant elevation changes isn't just decoration: it forces you to relearn braking points, setups and racing lines from scratch. And the fact that all of this arrives for free, years after launch, says a lot about how Polyphony sees the game as a long-term live service.

What you need to know

  • The first part of Spec IV arrives on October 15 on PS5 and PS4, at no extra cost.
  • Sportsland SUGO makes its series debut: a Japanese circuit known for its dramatic crests and dips.
  • Six cars are added, with the Ferrari F355 Berlinetta '94 as the most anticipated.
  • The previously revealed V10-powered BMW M5 has been pushed back to the second part, scheduled for December.
  • The update also includes new garage-related features.

Six very different cars

As is often the case with Gran Turismo, the October lineup is a deliberately eclectic mix. There's a '90s icon, a beloved French classic, an '80s racing version, a modern minivan and two prototypes tied to the Vision Gran Turismo universe. Here's the full list, based on the details reported by Vandal:

VehicleYearArrives in

Citroën 2CV 6 Charleston1986Spec IV · Part 1 (October)
Honda Civic Si Group A Version1987Spec IV · Part 1 (October)

Mazda RX-Vision GT3 Evo—Spec IV · Part 1 (October)
Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo—Spec IV · Part 1 (October)
BMW M5 (V10)—Spec IV · Part 2 (December)

For competitive players, the name generating the most interest is the Mazda RX-Vision GT3 Evo, thanks to its potential fit in the GT3 categories that dominate much of the online scene. The Ferrari F355, on the other hand, leans more toward collectors and nostalgia, though you can never rule out it headlining a challenge or weekly event at some point.

SUGO steals the show

Beyond the cars, the real headline is the track. Sportsland SUGO is a very familiar name to anyone who follows Japanese motorsport, and its signature feature is its elevation changes. In a sim, that means tricky weight transfer, downhill braking zones and spots where the car goes light just when you need grip the most. It's the kind of layout that separates drivers who rely on memory from those who truly understand how the car behaves.

The two-phase rollout can be read another way, too: Polyphony prefers to stagger content rather than pack everything into a single download. The case of the V10 BMW M5, shown earlier and now moved to December, confirms that the schedule has been reshuffled on the fly.

Our take

Here at Underworld Lordz, we're clear on this: one new track is worth more than ten new cars for the competitive scene. Cars pile up in the garage; tracks reset the race for lap times, level the playing field between veterans and newcomers for a few weeks, and generate tons of content for anyone making guides, onboards or practice streams. SUGO has everything it takes to become a demanding and hugely rewarding track in lobbies and leagues.

That said, it's not all praise. Delaying the V10 BMW M5 after already showing it off is a clumsy way to manage expectations, and splitting the update in two leaves the impression that content is being stretched out to keep the community hooked until the end of the year. On top of that, the October list has more nods to collectors than cars built to compete: a 2CV or a minivan has its charm, but neither is going to shift the meta.

Even so, the overall verdict is positive. It's free content, on both platforms, and it proves that GT7 is still very much alive. Our advice for the team's drivers: on October 15, before you even think about the Ferrari, head straight to SUGO and nail down your braking markers. Whoever masters those crests first will have the edge in the opening weeks.
