Rockstar released the launch trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI this week, and as always happens whenever the studio shows anything from its most anticipated game, the internet started analysing it frame by frame. This time the magnifying glass was in the hands of the team at Vandal, who went through the video looking for references to other Rockstar titles, new details about the story of Jason and Lucia and a few secrets hidden in the streets of Leonida and Vice City.
Why does it matter? Because we're in the home stretch. According to Vandal, the game launches on PS5 and Xbox Series on November 19, and this trailer is probably one of the last official looks we'll get before we can play it. Every shot Rockstar chooses to show at this point is designed to set expectations, and every detail most people miss can become a talking point for weeks, something any content creator knows how to make the most of.

What you need to know
- Rockstar released the launch trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI this week, featuring new footage of Leonida and Vice City.
- Vandal's analysis points to more information about Jason's military past.
- One sequence could be tied to the game's prologue, although Rockstar hasn't confirmed how the story begins.
- The video includes references to previous Rockstar games and small secrets for sharp-eyed viewers.
- The release date is still November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series.
What the trailer reveals
The most interesting part of the analysis concerns the narrative. Jason, one of the two protagonists, gains some depth thanks to hints about his past in the military, a detail that could weigh heavily on how the character is built and on the kind of missions that await us. Rockstar has a history of protagonists carrying emotional baggage, and everything suggests Jason won't be the exception.
The other big piece is the sequence that, according to Vandal, could be related to the prologue. This is where it's worth tempering the hype: Rockstar hasn't confirmed exactly how the story will begin, so for now we're talking about well-argued theories, not facts. Even so, the mere fact that the debate exists says a lot about how the trailer is designed: it shows just enough for the community to fill in the gaps.
Nods for veterans
The breakdown also finds references to previous Rockstar games, something almost mandatory for the series. For those who have spent years in the GTA universe, these easter eggs are part of the ritual; for newcomers, they're the perfect excuse to go and discover where each nod comes from. And, of course, Vice City once again takes centre stage visually, with Leonida as the vast setting where Jason and Lucia will make their moves.
Our take
Here in the Underworld Lordz newsroom, we're clear on this: this trailer is as much a piece of marketing as it is a gift to content creators. Theory videos, live streams breaking down shots, easter egg threads… Rockstar knows the community will do much of the promotional work, and it feeds it a little at a time. If you make content, these weeks before launch are gold: audiences are hungry for information and any well-made analysis draws attention.
That said, it's also time to be critical. The hype cycle around GTA VI is so huge that any theory gets sold as fact within hours. Just because a scene might belong to the prologue doesn't mean it does, and as a publication we'd rather separate what's confirmed from what's speculation. On top of that, the source only mentions PS5 and Xbox Series, so those who mainly play on PC will keep watching from the sidelines, which in a competitive community like ours is no small detail.
From a competitive standpoint, what interests us most is what hasn't been shown yet: the online component. Story mode sells the game, but what keeps a community active for years is what happens afterwards. As long as Rockstar keeps focusing its messaging on Jason and Lucia, we'll have to wait to find out whether GTA VI will have anything to offer players looking for more than a good story.
What do you think?
November 19 is just around the corner, and the trailer has already left plenty of theories to chew on. Do you think that mysterious scene really is the prologue, or do you reckon Rockstar is deliberately throwing us off the scent? Drop by the team chat or our Discord and tell us your theory.
