GTA 6 already holds a Guinness World Record before launch and is set to beat GTA V's vehicle count

Grand Theft Auto VI is not in stores yet and it already appears in the Guinness Book of World Records. According to Vandal, the first trailer for Rockstar's game holds the record for the most-viewed video game trailer in its first 24 hours, and the organization itself expects the title to add at least one more achievement as soon as it goes on sale, scheduled for November 19: that of the entry with the most vehicles in the entire series.
A game racking up accolades before anyone has played it says a lot about the state of the industry right now. GTA is the mass phenomenon par excellence, and every move Rockstar makes is measured in historic figures. For a competitive and creator-driven community like ours, this is more than a curiosity: it sets the size of the board on which we will be playing, streaming and creating content for years to come.

What you need to know
- Record already confirmed: the first GTA 6 trailer holds the Guinness World Record for the most-viewed video game trailer in 24 hours.
- The second trailer almost did it again: during its launch window it was the most-watched trailer in history, until it was overtaken by the Spider-Man: Brand New Day video.
- Record about to fall: Guinness expects GTA 6 to become the game in the series with the most vehicles, a title currently held by GTA V.
- The mark to beat: GTA V launched with 217 vehicles and reached 257 after its post-launch content and re-releases on other platforms.
- Official figure still pending: Rockstar has not specified how many cars, motorcycles, helicopters or boats the new entry will include.
From the trailers to the garage: why GTA V is the one to beat
The vehicle count is no trivial detail. In a sandbox like GTA, the vehicle roster is the heart of the experience: it defines the chases, the online races, the heists and a good part of the game's economy. GTA V started out with an already huge fleet and kept expanding it over the years with post-launch content and every jump to new platforms. That growth made its catalog the largest in the franchise and the benchmark its successor now has to surpass.
| Game | Vehicles at launch | Vehicles after updates |
|---|---|---|
| GTA V | 217 | 257 |
| GTA VI | No official figure | To be confirmed |
What matters is the gap between those two figures: forty vehicles added after release. That shows the final vehicle count of a GTA game is not decided on day one, but over the years of support that follow. If GTA 6 beats 257 at launch, as Guinness anticipates, the bar for its own online mode will be set even higher.
A phenomenon measured in records
The story of the trailers illustrates the media pull of this launch. The first trailer shattered the single-day viewing record; the second became, for a time, the most-watched trailer in history during its launch window, and only the Spider-Man: Brand New Day teaser managed to take that spot from it. Few entertainment brands can compete on equal terms with a Marvel film franchise for global attention, and GTA is one of them.

Our take
At the Underworld Lordz editorial desk we applaud the ambition, but it is worth keeping our feet on the ground. A Guinness World Record for the number of vehicles makes a great headline for Rockstar and the press, but it says nothing about what really matters to competitive players: how those vehicles handle, whether the netcode holds up in a race on a full server, whether the balance keeps two or three models from being the only viable picks, and whether the online mode arrives on day one with serious tools for organizing leagues and tournaments. Two hundred poorly balanced options are worth less than fifty well-designed ones.
For content creators the picture is different and more optimistic. A giant catalog means more combinations for shoots, more customization challenges and an almost endless stream of ideas for videos and streams. The trailer record already proves the audience is there, hungry and waiting. The challenge will be standing out when everyone is talking about the same thing during the first few weeks.
What does concern us is Rockstar and Guinness selling quantity as a merit in itself. GTA V took years to reach its final figure thanks to continuous support that also brought plenty of aggressive monetization. If GTA 6 starts from an even bigger base, the uncomfortable question is how many of those vehicles will sit behind a paywall in the online mode. That is where our community will need to be demanding.
