Arc System Works now has a roadmap for the first year of Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls. The studio has laid out the full Year 1 DLC schedule, and the first piece is arriving soon: Phoenix Cyclops joins the roster on November 2. After that come Thor (Jane Foster), Venom and Jubilee, spread across winter, spring and summer 2027. The core information comes from Gamereactor España, which in turn draws on details published by Eurogamer.

Why does it matter? Because in a fighting game, the roster is everything. Every new character shifts the meta, forces players to learn matchups from scratch and reopens tier list debates that seemed settled. Having the dates months in advance lets players, tournament organizers and content creators plan properly, something that doesn't always happen in the genre.

What you need to know

  • Phoenix Cyclops arrives on November 2 with two outfits: Classic and Legacy.
  • Thor (Jane Foster) is scheduled for winter 2027.
  • Venom lands in spring 2027 and brings a stage set in Klyntar.
  • Jubilee wraps up Year 1 in summer 2027.
  • Everything is part of the Year One Characters & Stage Pass, though each item can also be bought separately.

The schedule, piece by piece

The roadmap is clear and staggered, with one release per season. Here's how it breaks down based on what has been announced:

ContentRelease windowConfirmed extras
Phoenix CyclopsNovember 2Classic and Legacy outfits
Thor (Jane Foster)Winter 2027—
VenomSpring 2027Klyntar stage
JubileeSummer 2027—

The game is already available on PS5 and PC, so this pass is pure post-launch content. And it's not an isolated case in the Marvel universe: the source points out that other titles from the House of Ideas also have long-term plans, such as the Doctor Doom DLC for Marvel Cosmic Invasion. Marvel is betting on keeping its games alive with regular drops instead of launching them and moving on.

Who it affects

Casual players, not much: they can wait for the character they're interested in and buy it on its own. Competitive players, a lot more. Four new characters in just one year means four shake-ups to the meta, and a one-character-per-season window fits the usual rhythm of tournaments and seasons. For content creators, every release is an opportunity for guides, combos and first impressions.

Our take

Here at Underworld Lordz, we value transparency. Publishing the full schedule all at once, with concrete windows, is exactly what the competitive community asks for. No trickle of teasers or surprise announcements mid-season: you know what's coming and when, and that lets you prepare. Being able to buy each character individually is also a smart move; not everyone wants to pay for four fighters just to play one.

That said, there are caveats. Phoenix Cyclops is an interesting pick, but it's still a variant of a very well-known character, and the risk with alternate versions is that they feel recycled if they don't bring a genuinely different kit. That's where Arc System Works has to prove it knows how to set them apart. On the other hand, only Venom comes with a new stage: a single stage in an entire year feels thin, even if the impact on tournaments is limited. And the big unknown is balance: if every DLC character launches broken, the pass will turn into a paywall for competing, something the genre has suffered through far too many times.

For creators, the message is clear: Year 1 offers four well-spaced spikes of attention. Whoever has content ready on launch day, with tech and basic combos, will grab the visibility. And Venom, with the Klyntar stage, looks set to be the flashiest release of the bunch.

What do you think?

Phoenix Cyclops, Jane Foster, Venom and Jubilee: the first-year roster now has names and dates. Some will see it as a solid selection, while others will miss their favorites. Drop by the team chat or our Discord and tell us: which of the four do you think will break the Marvel Tōkon meta?
