Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 now has its first major date on the calendar. According to IGN Spain, Activision has revealed the details of the game's Season 1, and the package is a big one: six new multiplayer maps, including the long-awaited return of Shoot House, along with new weapons, game modes and events. On paper, it is one of the most generous season launches we can remember in the franchise.

Why does it matter so much to us at Underworld Lordz? Because Season 1 is the moment when a Call of Duty stops being a launch and becomes a living game. It is when the map rotation we will be playing for months gets defined, when the weapons that will shape the meta show up, and when content creators find out whether they will have fresh material or will have to keep squeezing the same old stuff. Whatever Activision puts on the table now sets the tone for the entire competitive year.

What you need to know

  • Six new maps arrive with Modern Warfare 4 Season 1, as confirmed by Activision in the details reported by IGN Spain.
  • Shoot House is back. The most beloved three-lane map of the franchise's modern era returns to multiplayer.
  • New weapons join the arsenal, which points to changes in the competitive meta.
  • Brand-new game modes and events round out the season's content.
  • The source does not yet detail the exact release date or the full list of maps and weapons, so it is best to wait for the complete official announcement before planning anything.

Shoot House: why a small map carries so much weight

For anyone who missed it, Shoot House was born in 2019's Modern Warfare and almost immediately became the go-to map for players who wanted constant action with no corners to hide in. Three clean lanes, fast engagements and a center that rewards aggression: it is the kind of design that appeals as much to the casual player chasing killstreaks as to the competitive player who wants to read the map in two seconds.

Its return is not just a nod to nostalgia. In a franchise that has spent years debating whether its launch maps are too big or too chaotic, bringing back a three-lane classic is a clear message about where Activision wants to take Modern Warfare 4 multiplayer. And, along the way, it is a sure-fire draw to fill the playlists during the first few weeks.

What changes and who it affects

Six maps in a single season is a high number by recent Call of Duty standards, where the usual approach has been to spread maps out across several updates. If they all land in core multiplayer, the game's rotation changes substantially for everyone, from the person who plays a couple of matches at night to the teams training for tournaments.

For the competitive scene, the key will be which maps and weapons make it into the ranked playlists and which are left out. A new map that is not played in ranked is, for all practical purposes, decoration. For content creators, on the other hand, the news is good almost any way you look at it: six new maps mean six guides, six route videos and six excuses to hit record again. Seasonal events also tend to bring rewards that get the community logging in all at once, something that shows up in the numbers of any livestream.

What we still do not know, because the source does not cover it, is the rollout schedule, whether any maps will be exclusive to a specific mode, or how the content will be split between the start of the season and its midpoint. These are the details that usually make the difference between a solid season and one that fizzles out after two weeks.

Our take

Here at the Underworld Lordz editorial desk we view the announcement with optimism, but with a big asterisk. Activision betting on six maps at launch is a sign that it has understood the most repeated complaint of recent years: the lack of variety in the early months. However, quantity is not quality. If half of those six maps turn out to be maps recycled from previous entries, the headline loses its punch. Shoot House is welcome, but we do not want the return of classics to become the formula for padding out seasons without designing anything new.

For the competitive scene, what will truly decide whether this Season 1 is good is not the maps, but the weapons. Every Call of Duty has had its launch season broken by a weapon that arrived too strong and forced emergency patches. If the new weapons come in balanced and with a clear role instead of being a battle pass selling point, the meta will have room to settle. If not, we will live through another cycle of complaints, tournament bans and matches decided by who unlocked the flavor-of-the-month weapon first.

And a direct request to Activision: transparency around ranked. Teams need to know as soon as possible which maps and modes will be part of the competitive rotation so they can train with purpose. Announcing six maps without clarifying which ones count for ranked play is leaving the job half done.

What do you think?

Shoot House is back and Modern Warfare 4 multiplayer opens up with six maps at once, but the important part remains to be seen: how all of this fits into the competitive scene and whether the new weapons arrive properly balanced. Tell us in the team chat or on our Discord: would you rather Activision bring back more classic maps, or bet on completely new maps even if they take longer to arrive?
