Monster Hunter Outlanders launches free on mobile on October 29 with an open world

It's official: Monster Hunter Outlanders has a release date. As reported by Vandal, TiMi Studio Group and Capcom have confirmed that the series' new mobile title will be available on October 29 on iOS and Android, and it will launch as a free-to-play game. In other words, anyone with a phone or tablet will be able to download it and head out on a hunt without paying anything up front.

Aesoland: an open world to hunt in from your pocket

The adventure takes place in Aesoland, a brand-new land we'll be able to explore freely while gathering resources and tracking down all kinds of creatures. The idea, as reported by Vandal, is to bring much of the series' identity to mobile, but reorganized around open exploration and survival, with a structure adapted to play sessions on phones and tablets.

The social side remains the heart of the experience: team hunts of up to four people let you take on the most dangerous monsters together, just like in the mainline entries. On top of that come the Radiant species, monster variants shaped by certain changes that the available information doesn't fully explain, and which will be exclusive to Outlanders.

Who it affects

Longtime fans, who will have a way to keep hunting while away from home; mobile players looking for something deeper than the usual quick matches; and content creators, who are looking at a free launch from a huge brand, with everything that means for visibility and search traffic during the first few weeks.

Our take

Here at the Underworld Lordz newsroom, we're excited about the announcement, but also cautious. TiMi Studio Group has plenty of experience with massively popular mobile games, and the combination of an open world with four-player co-op fits Monster Hunter's DNA perfectly. However, the word free-to-play always raises the same question: how will it be monetized? So far there are no details on that, and the answer will determine whether progression feels fair or ends up pushing players to open their wallets to get better gear.

For competitive players, the interesting part will be mastery: finding out whether combat keeps the weapon depth and pattern reading we love so much, or whether it gets oversimplified because of touch controls. Radiant species could be the perfect hook for time challenges, speedruns and coordinated hunts, as long as the design rewards skill and not just hours played.

For creators, the time is now. A free launch from a series like this usually sparks a huge spike in interest, and whoever shows up prepared with guides, first impressions and co-op streams will have an edge. That said, our advice is not to commit to the game until you see how it evolves after the first few weeks.
