The Witcher 3 Remastered and AMD: Waiting on the 26.9.2 Drivers

If you play on PC with an AMD graphics card and were planning a return to the Continent with The Witcher 3 Remastered, there's something you should know before you hit "Play." According to Movistar eSports, CD Projekt Red has announced that AMD users need to update their drivers to version 26.9.2 to enjoy the game as intended. Nothing unusual so far: big launches usually come with drivers tuned for the occasion.

The problem is the order of events. According to the same source, AMD still hadn't released that update at the time of publication. In other words, the studio is asking for something the manufacturer hasn't delivered yet. For anyone who plays, streams, records or simply wants stable performance from minute one, that's no small detail: it's the difference between a smooth launch and an afternoon spent wrestling with settings.

What you need to know

  • CD Projekt Red recommends that AMD users update to the 26.9.2 drivers for The Witcher 3 Remastered.
  • According to Movistar eSports, AMD hadn't yet released that version when the notice went out.
  • The notice directly affects PC players with AMD graphics cards.
  • The practical advice is clear: only download drivers from AMD's official channels once they're available.

What changes and who it affects

The source doesn't specify what improvements version 26.9.2 will bring or which issues it fixes, so we're not going to make that up. What we do know is that the studio itself considers it necessary, and when a developer points to a specific driver version, it's usually because they've worked with the manufacturer to fine-tune compatibility, stability or performance in their game. Playing without it could mean a worse experience than the game actually has to offer.

The people affected are, obviously, those with AMD hardware. Users with other brands shouldn't be impacted by this particular notice. Until the update arrives, the sensible thing is to be patient, keep your system up to date with the latest stable version available, and be wary of any website or link promising 26.9.2 before AMD officially releases it. "Early" drivers from questionable sources are an open door to malware, and no game is worth compromising your PC.

A familiar pattern

This isn't the first time the industry has seen this kind of gap between a game announcement and driver support. Coordination between studios and hardware manufacturers usually works well, but when it falls out of sync, it's the player who pays the price: the game is sitting ready in their library and they can't get the most out of it.

Our take

Here at Underworld Lordz, we're clear on this: announcing a requirement that doesn't exist yet is a coordination failure, no matter who's responsible. We understand that CD Projekt Red wants to give players advance notice, and that's better than silence. But a notice like this should come with a download link, or at the very least a date. Leaving the AMD community in limbo breeds anxiety, rumors and, worse still, downloads from unreliable sources.

For competitive players, the driver isn't just a formality. It's part of the setup, just like your mouse or your sensitivity settings. Switching drivers right before a launch means rechecking frame times, latency and stability. And for content creators, the hit is twice as hard: if the game doesn't run as it should on launch day, the stream suffers, the video comes out stuttery and the audience notices. Our advice: if you're going to create content around the remaster, plan your first session for when the driver is already installed and tested, not before.

That said, there's no need to be dramatic. A pending driver release is a temporary problem. What matters is that the industry takes note: technical announcements need to arrive complete. PC players already juggle enough variables without adding unnecessary uncertainty.
