WoW Forever and PvP: three ways to play and a question that no longer has a single answer

World of Warcraft's oldest question is back under a new name: which class should you pick if fighting other players is your thing? As reported by Movistar eSports, the WoW Forever community will be split across three different ways to experience the game, and which one you get will depend on the server you choose. That decision comes before any other. By the time you create your first character, you will in practice already be choosing the kind of game you're going to play.

Why does it matter? Because in an MMO, your class isn't decoration; it's your tool for hundreds of hours. If the ecosystem splinters into three modes, there's no longer a universal answer to "what's the best class for PvP?" What shines on one server may fall short on another. Choose blindly and you risk sinking weeks into a character that doesn't fit the environment in front of you.

What you need to know

  • Three ways to play: according to Movistar eSports, the WoW Forever community will be split into three distinct playstyles.
  • The server calls the shots: the mode you experience depends directly on the server you choose.
  • A decision from minute one: the choice comes up as soon as you create your first character.
  • No single answer: the question of the best PvP class now depends on the context of each server.

What changes for PvP players

First, let's be honest about what we know. The source material lays out the debate and the framework of three playstyles, but we're not going to reproduce a definitive ranking here or make up numbers we don't have. What really matters is the premise itself. The age-old question now comes with a precondition, and that precondition is the server.

Anyone who has spent years in Azeroth knows that a class's PvP value has never been fixed. It has depended on the patch, the format (duels, arenas, battlegrounds or world PvP) and even the comp you play with. A class with lots of crowd control can dominate in small groups and struggle in large-scale fights, while one with heavy AoE damage can experience the opposite. If WoW Forever splits the community into three ways to play, it's reasonable to expect each one to end up with its own meta, complete with its own favorites, underrated classes and endless forum debates.

Who it affects most

  • Competitive players: they'll need to study the server as much as the class, because the environment determines which tools are worth the most.
  • Returning veterans: muscle memory from earlier eras of the game could work against them if their chosen server rewards a different style.
  • Content creators: a generic "best class" guide loses value. They'll need to specify which server and what kind of player each recommendation is for.

Our take

Here at Underworld Lordz, we're clear on this: pick the server first, then the class. Doing it the other way around is a recipe for frustration. Before you look at any tier list, ask yourself what kind of PvP you want to play, who with, and how many hours you're going to put in. The "best class" is the one that fits that context and that you enjoy enough to master, because in PvP the gap between a well-played character and a poorly played one matters more than almost any design advantage.

That said, there's a side to this fragmentation we're not entirely sold on. Splitting the community into three modes could be great for helping every type of player find their place, but it could also dilute the competitive scene. Fewer players per mode means queues, opponents and tournaments spread thin, and that doesn't always help a healthy scene emerge. If WoW Forever's PvP is going to have a competitive future, there will need to be a lot of clarity about what each server offers and some common ground between them.

For creators, on the other hand, we see an opportunity. An ecosystem with three different metas is fertile ground for niche content: server-specific guides, comparisons, cross-mode challenges. Whoever gets there first with rigorous analysis, rather than empty headlines, will win over the audience. Our advice: don't commit to any class in the first few weeks. Experiment, measure and share what actually works.

What do you think?

Three ways to play, a single starting character and one decision that shapes everything else. We're betting on choosing the server before the class, but we know this community has diehard mains who won't switch for anything. So we're asking you directly: if you jumped into WoW Forever today, which server would you pick, and which class would you take out looking for a fight?
