Riot Games' fighting game is about to wrap up its content story. According to Gamereactor Spain, 2XKO patch 1.3.3 will arrive on October 27, 2026 with two new champions, Sett and Samira, and with them the roster is complete. Riot itself announced it in a dev story published on October 22, where it also confirmed that this will be the last major update the title receives.
The news matters for two very different reasons. The first is obvious to anyone who plays: two new characters at once, in a genre where every addition shifts the entire meta. The second is more bitter. Riot talking about a last major update and active development ending in December 2026 marks the end of an era for a project many of us saw as the leading candidate to revitalize the Spanish-speaking fighting game scene.
What you need to know
- Date and patch: Sett and Samira arrive on October 27, 2026 as part of patch 1.3.3.
- Roster closed: Sett is the game's final champion. With him and Samira, Riot considers the fighter list complete.
- Last major update: the studio confirmed that 1.3.3 is the final major patch and that active development of 2XKO ends in December 2026.
- Sett was not in the 2026 plan: production started in mid-February, moved up from an original target of mid-2027.
- Who told the story: the post is signed by Ben Forbes, known as Draggles, communications lead for 2XKO.
Sett, the champion born from an internal challenge
The most interesting part of the dev story is not the date, but how Sett made it into the game. As reported by Gamereactor Spain, the character was never part of the original 2026 roadmap. A small group within the studio, internally known as the Sett pod, set itself an ambitious goal: pull the champion's production forward by more than a year and have him ready far earlier than planned.
That team also set itself a very clear condition. If by July Sett was not up to the standard of the rest of the 2XKO champions, he would not ship. It was a bet with a deadline and no safety net. Within the first two weeks they already had a playable model in the game and a prototype of the kit, which gives you an idea of the pace they worked at. The champion's full development took around eight months.
In July came the news that shapes everything else: the team learned that active development of 2XKO would stop in December 2026, and that Sett would be part of the final update. In other words, the champion was finished knowing he would be the closing chapter, not the start of a new season.
| Milestone | When |
|---|---|
| Original target for Sett | Mid-2027 |
| Actual start of production | Mid-February 2026 |
| Playable kit prototype | First two weeks |
| Quality deadline | July 2026 |
| Sett and Samira release | October 27, 2026 |
| End of active development | December 2026 |
What changes for competitors and content creators
For the competitive scene, a closed roster has one advantage that should not be underestimated: stability. Without new champions every few months, the game can settle, matchups get studied in depth and the level of lab work rises. Many classic fighting games have enjoyed their best competitive years precisely after receiving their final character.
For content creators the outlook is more uncomfortable. Sett and Samira will deliver one last spike of interest and guides, but after that the flow of news dries up. Without the hook of new releases, holding onto an audience will depend on tournaments, competitive drama and your own creativity, not on a calendar set by Riot.

Our take
At Underworld Lordz we have mixed feelings. The story of the Sett pod is the kind we love: a small team that sets a high bar, gives itself a real deadline and meets it. The fact that 2XKO's final champion is one born from that internal drive says a lot about the people working on the game. We hope Sett arrives as polished as the story promises, because shipping a final character below the standard of the rest would be a mistake that could no longer be fixed.
That said, we are not going to sugarcoat the rest. Riot announcing the end of active development just as the roster is completed is a worrying sign for anyone who has invested time, tournaments or a channel in this game. The source does not explain the reasons behind the decision, and we are not going to speculate with figures nobody has provided, but the message to the competitive community is clear: from December onward, the future of 2XKO will depend more on the players than on the studio.
Our advice for the team's competitive players is simple. Use patch 1.3.3 to master Sett and Samira from day one, because nobody is coming afterward to rebalance the roster if something breaks. And we ask creators to be realistic: plan content knowing this is the last big wave and that whatever comes next will have to be built by the community itself.
What do you think?
A closed roster and the end of development can be the beginning of a stable competitive scene or the start of a slow fade-out. We want to believe in the former, but we understand those who are skeptical. Will you keep competing in 2XKO after December, or do you think Riot has abandoned the community right when the game was complete? Let us know in the team chat or on our Discord.
