Arc Raiders Goes Free for Five Days: Dates, Platforms and the Fine Print

If you've been eyeing extraction shooters for a while without committing to buying one, your chance is coming. As reported by Vida Extra, Embark Studios has announced a free access period for Arc Raiders that kicks off on October 8 at 11:00 and wraps up on October 12 at the same time. The trial will be available on PC via Steam, on PS5 and on Xbox Series X/S, and it isn't a cut-down demo: it's the full game, Thursday through Monday, with no hour cap.
Why does it matter? Because Arc Raiders has earned its place as one of the standout titles in the genre in recent years, and free trials like this are often the moment a community either grows or stalls. The timing isn't a coincidence either: the start lines up with the launch of Frozen Trail, the game's big new update. Embark wants as many players as possible to show up right when there's fresh content on the table.

What You Need to Know
- Dates: from October 8 at 11:00 to October 12 at 11:00.
- Platforms: PC (Steam), PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
- Full access: no limited modes; play as much as you want during the trial.
- On console you'll need an online subscription, since the game is essentially multiplayer.
- Progress: Embark hasn't clarified whether what you earn will carry over if you buy the game afterwards.
A Trial Built Around the Arrival of Frozen Trail
Embark's move is textbook, but well executed. Pairing a long free weekend with a major update has two effects: veterans come back to try the new content, and newcomers land on packed servers, with fast matchmaking and an event-like atmosphere. In a genre where the sense of risk depends on running into other players, a healthy player count is almost as important as the content itself.
That said, it's worth checking the requirements for whichever platform you plan to play on, because not everyone starts from the same place:
| Platform | Store | Additional Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| PC | Steam | None stated |
| PS5 | PlayStation Store | Console online subscription |
| Xbox Series X/S | Microsoft Store | Console online subscription |
The Big Unknown: Progress
The trickiest point is that nobody knows whether progress will carry over. In an extraction game, where much of the hook lies in building up gear, resources and upgrades, this is no small detail. If whatever you farm during those days disappears, a lot of people will play with a different mindset: taking more risks, experimenting rather than building something for the long haul.
Our Take
Here at Underworld Lordz, we're convinced: full free trials are the best way to sell a multiplayer game, far more effective than any trailer. Arc Raiders has plenty going for it, and Embark is right to show it off with no strings attached. For competitive players, these days are ideal for gauging whether the pacing, the gunplay and the risk management suit their playstyle before investing money and, above all, hundreds of hours.
That said, two things don't sit right with us. First, the silence on progress: it's basic information that should have been clear from the announcement, because it shapes how you'll make the most of the trial. Second, the console subscription paywall, which makes free a relative term for anyone without an active subscription. It's not directly Embark's fault, but it does limit the real reach of the initiative on PS5 and Xbox.
For content creators, on the other hand, this window is pure gold: a new update, a flood of new players and four days of peak viewership. Beginner guides, first impressions of Frozen Trail or squad sessions with the community all stand a great chance of performing well. Our advice: get your content ready before Thursday and don't miss the wave.
What Do You Think?
We're planning to squeeze in a few group matches over those days to see what Frozen Trail is made of. Will you give Arc Raiders a shot even without knowing whether your progress will carry over, or would you rather wait for Embark to clear it up? Let us know in the team chat or drop by our Discord and we'll put a squad together.
