ARC Raiders is back on everyone's lips. According to Vandal, Embark Studios' extraction shooter hit a peak of 131,388 concurrent players on Steam on October 8, its best figure since April. The surge lines up with the release of Frozen Trail, the biggest update the game has received since it launched in October 2025.
The number matters because it comes after months of bleeding. The title had lost a large chunk of its player base, and on Wednesday, October 7, one day before the patch, its daily peak hovered around 43,800 concurrent players. In barely 24 hours it practically tripled its activity. For a live-service game, that ability to come back to life with every major content drop is both its greatest strength and its greatest dependency.

What you need to know
- Six-month record: 131,388 concurrent players on Steam according to SteamDB data reported by Vandal, the highest peak since April, when Riven Tides arrived.
- Massive one-day jump: from a peak of around 43,800 on October 7 to the high on the 8th, almost three times the activity.
- Frozen Trail is the biggest update ARC Raiders has received since its launch in October 2025.
- Pendola Pass is the patch's big draw: a brand-new map that tops the list of added content.
- A repeating pattern: the previous major peak also coincided with an update, confirming that the game lives and breathes by its patches.
Frozen Trail: the patch that breathes life back into ARC Raiders
Embark Studios has gone all in on a major content release. Frozen Trail, available since October 8, brings a huge amount of new material, and its centerpiece is Pendola Pass, a new location that expands the pool of maps where Raiders head to the surface to hunt for loot and risk their necks against the machines and rival squads. In a genre where map rotation defines the lifespan of each season, a fresh battleground is the best possible bait to get veterans to reinstall.
The numbers speak for themselves. Here is the comparison Vandal put together from SteamDB:
| Date | Peak concurrent players on Steam | Context |
|---|---|---|
| October 7, 2026 | ~43,800 | Day before the patch, after months of decline |
| October 8, 2026 | 131,388 | Frozen Trail launch, highest since April |
It is worth remembering that April's ceiling was reached with Riven Tides, the previous major update. In other words, ARC Raiders still has not found a formula to keep its community stable between patches: people arrive in droves, squeeze the content dry and leave until the next big date. Matching the benchmark from six months ago is good news, but it is also a sign that the game relies too heavily on these spikes to stay relevant.
The live-service cycle
What is happening to ARC Raiders is not an isolated case. Practically every extraction title and seasonal shooter rides the same roller coaster: strong launch, gradual decline, big patch, revival, and back to the start. The difference lies in how much of that peak sticks around. If Pendola Pass and the rest of Frozen Trail's additions manage to retain a significant share of those 131,388 players over the coming weeks, Embark will have taken a real step toward stability. If the curve drops back to 40,000 in November, we will be looking at another mirage.

Our take
Here at the Underworld Lordz newsroom we welcome the comeback, but with a raised eyebrow. For those of us who compete and create content, a game that empties out between updates is a serious problem: matchmaking queues get longer, lobby skill levels become unpredictable and live audiences crater when the title drops out of the spotlight. A six-month peak sounds great in a headline, but what we need is a solid base that holds up in the second and third week of the patch.
We are also concerned about the patch-as-event dynamic being the only engine. A new map is fantastic, but the competitive ecosystem of an extraction shooter is built on spectator tools, public stats, support for community tournaments and clear communication about weapon and gear balance. If Embark wants ARC Raiders to be more than a cyclical fad, it should invest in those things as much as in new locations. Streamers will come back for Pendola Pass; they will only stay if there are reasons to compete.
That said, credit where it is due. Getting three times as many people to return in a single day proves the community has not fully left, that it is still paying attention and trusts that every major update is worth it. That trust is an asset many studios would pay dearly for. Now the ball is in Embark's court: turning launch-day excitement into a regular playing habit.
What do you think?
Many of our Lordz have already dropped into Pendola Pass, and first impressions within the team are split between excitement for the map and doubts about whether it will last. Do you think Frozen Trail will mark a turning point for ARC Raiders, or is this just another passing spike? Tell us in the team chat or on our Discord.
