EA Sports FC 27 Dominates in Spain as Mirror's Edge Catalyst Sneaks onto the Chart

It wasn't even close. EA Sports FC 27 took first place in Spain's video game sales for the week of September 28 to October 4, and it did so with a huge lead over everything else. As reported by Vandal, based on data published by the Spanish Video Game Association (AEVI) and compiled by GSD, Electronic Arts' football sim tops both the physical chart and the combined chart of retail and digital downloads.

EA's football game ruling the autumn charts surprises no one. The interesting part is a little further down: among the best-sellers is Mirror's Edge Catalyst, a game from roughly ten years ago that nobody expected to see this high up. For those of us who live off competition and content, these charts are more than a curiosity: they show where players' attention is and, by extension, where the audience is.

What you need to know

  • The data covers week 40 of 2026 (September 28 to October 4) and is published by AEVI, compiled by GSD.
  • There are two charts: one for physical sales only and another combining physical and digital.
  • EA Sports FC 27 leads both: 27,849 units physical and 65,589 including digital.
  • Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is second on the physical chart with 2,625 units.
  • Mirror's Edge Catalyst sneaks into the best-sellers as the big surprise of the week.

An unrivalled leader and a huge gap behind it

The picture the numbers paint is crystal clear. In physical format, FC 27 sells more than ten times as much as its closest rival. And once digital is added, the figure more than doubles, confirming something we already suspected: a large share of football fans buy straight from their console, never setting foot in a store.

Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter's second place on the physical chart also deserves a mention. It's a niche JRPG with a loyal community that still values having the game on the shelf, which explains why it performs better at retail than in other formats. It's a reminder that physical isn't dead: it has simply become the territory of collectors and very specific fan bases.

A surprise from the past

Mirror's Edge Catalyst's appearance is the stat that will get people talking the most. The source doesn't give its exact position or unit count in the available excerpt, so we won't speculate on numbers. What matters is the phenomenon: a title that's a decade old is back on a chart dominated by new releases and annual franchises. It could be down to a sale, a spike in interest or nostalgia, but either way it shows that a game with its own identity can get a second life.

Our take

Here in the Underworld Lordz newsroom, we're certain: FC 27 will once again be the most played, most competed and most streamed football game in Spain over the coming months. If you're a competitive player, the sooner you adapt to its meta, the better. If you create content, the audience is there from day one, and that's gold. That said, it also means saturation: standing out in FC takes more than uploading matches; you need a format, personality and consistency.

Having said that, the monoculture worries us a little. When a single title grabs such a large share of the weekly market, it leaves little room for anything else, and the Spanish-speaking competitive scene is richer when there's variety. That's why we're glad to see games like Mirror's Edge Catalyst or Trails in the Sky on the chart: they prove there's an audience for something different.

For creators, the lesson is simple: forgotten games can be an opportunity. While everyone fights for the same space in FC, a good speedrun, a retrospective or a challenge in a classic that's trending again can get you noticed with far less competition.
