The countdown is on. Rockstar has released the official launch trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6, a 90-second piece that sets aside the map and gameplay showcase to focus on what the studio seems to want to sell above all else: the story of Jason and Lucia. As reported by Gamereactor Spain, the game arrives on November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, and this trailer serves as the final big push before fans finally get their hands on the controller.

Why does a minute-and-a-half trailer matter so much? Because this is no ordinary launch. GTA 6 will be Rockstar's first major single-player game since Red Dead Redemption 2, which came out in 2018. That's an eight-year wait from the studio that sets the pace for open-world games, and every new image gets analyzed frame by frame by millions of people. For the creator community, this also marks the starting gun for one of the most intense content seasons of the year.

What you need to know

  • The launch trailer runs 90 seconds and focuses on Jason and Lucia.
  • GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
  • The story kicks off when a seemingly easy job goes wrong and drags the couple into a criminal conspiracy across the fictional state of Leonida, home to Vice City.
  • French duo Justice composed the trailer's music and, according to Rockstar, the game's original score as well.
  • The trailer was captured on PS5 and comes with new screenshots of the protagonists.

A story of two, with an entire state against them

The synopsis accompanying the video is simple, almost classic: a job that was supposed to be quick goes sideways, and Jason and Lucia end up caught in a criminal web that stretches across all of Leonida. Rockstar had already made it clear that this GTA would revolve around a couple, and the trailer doubles down on that idea. No three protagonists taking turns like in the fifth installment: here, the bond between the two seems to be the narrative engine.

Vice City returns as one of the locations in the fictional state, a huge nod to everyone who grew up with the series' neon aesthetic. The studio rounds out the campaign with screenshots of both characters, a strategy that reinforces the approach: before the map, the city or the activities, Rockstar wants you to care about the people you're going to control.

Justice sets the beat

The music is the other big headline. Justice, leading figures in French electronic music, composed the trailer's music and, according to Rockstar, the game's original score. The duo is also releasing a new single, Flower in a Hurricane, featuring artists such as Tame Impala and SZA. Giving GTA's music an identity of its own, beyond the radio stations, is an interesting change of tone for the series.

Our take

Here at Underworld Lordz, we're clear on this: Rockstar is playing it safe, and it's working. A short, character-driven trailer with a powerful soundtrack is exactly what you need when the hype is already through the roof. There's no need to show more; it's enough to remind everyone that the game exists and that the date is close. That said, we'd like more concrete information at this point, especially regarding the online component, which is what will truly determine the game's competitive life for years to come.

For content creators, the message is different: get ready. Launches like this generate weeks of streams, theories, guides and comparisons, and whoever shows up with a plan will have the edge. There's also a critical angle: releasing only on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S leaves out, for now, the huge PC community, which is home to much of the roleplay, modding and server scene that has given GTA 5 so much. That absence is felt.

Finally, the focus on single-player strikes us as good news. Eight years without a major Rockstar campaign is a long time, and if Jason and Lucia live up to Arthur Morgan, the genre's storytelling bar will rise once again.
