Prince Adam is raising his sword once again. According to Vandal, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction now has a release date: February 4, 2027. It's a side-scrolling beat 'em up that brings back the look of the original '80s animated series. It comes from Limited Run Games and developer Bitmap Bureau, who paired the announcement with a new gameplay-focused trailer.

Why should you care if competitive play is your thing? Because the side-scrolling brawler genre is enjoying a second youth, and every release with a big license tests whether this revival has staying power or is just well-packaged nostalgia. On top of that, the announced price puts it in a very affordable bracket. That usually means lots of people playing at the same time, challenges between friends, and plenty of material for content creators.

What You Need to Know

  • Release: February 4, 2027.
  • Platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
  • Price: €29.99.
  • Genre: 2D side-scrolling beat 'em up inspired by '90s arcade games.
  • Content: more than 13 levels in which He-Man, She-Ra, and friends take on Skeletor.

A Comeback with an Arcade Flavor

According to Vandal, the concept is straightforward: move from left to right through stages packed with enemies and clear the screen with your fists. It's the formula of '90s arcades, the kind that made you drop in one more coin just to see the next level. The trailer shows off that 2D action with recognizable characters from Masters of the Universe. The roster of playable heroes looks set to be one of its main draws.

The visuals deserve a special mention. Instead of reimagining the franchise with a modern style, the game sticks with the look of the original cartoon. It's a smart call. Anyone who grew up with the show will recognize it instantly, and those who didn't will find a style with real personality, far from the generic realism of so many current releases.

Who It's For

The natural audience is clear: '80s nostalgia fans and genre enthusiasts. But the wide range of platforms, including last-gen consoles and Switch, greatly expands its reach. You don't need the newest console to play it, and that's a plus for communities like ours, spread across the Americas and Europe with all kinds of setups.

Our Take

Here at the Underworld Lordz newsroom, we view this announcement favorably, with some caveats. The good: a reasonable price, availability on every relevant platform, and a genre that lends itself to replayability. A well-made beat 'em up is fertile ground for speedruns, score chasing, and finding optimal routes. That's where a competitive player finds their place, even if the game has no ranked mode.

What gives us pause: more than 13 levels is a decent number, but in this genre raw length matters less than the depth of the combat system. If it all boils down to mashing the same button, the license won't save it. We want to see combos with room for mastery, real differences between characters, and a difficulty level that punishes mistakes. That's the difference between a game you finish in an afternoon and one you keep coming back to for months. We'll wait until we've played it before giving a verdict, because nostalgia has sold plenty of games that didn't live up to expectations.

For content creators, it's an interesting play. A recognizable franchise, eye-catching visuals, and short sessions fit perfectly with clips, single-sitting streams, and challenge formats. If the gameplay delivers, February could be a great month to make the most of it.
