Sony Interactive Entertainment has pulled back the curtain on the Prism Collection, a line of DualSense controllers and PS5 console covers with a transparent finish, arriving in three colors: Flare Orange, Emerald Green and Graphite Gray. As reported by Gamereactor España based on the announcement published on PlayStation.Blog on October 28, 2026, pre-orders will open on November 10, 2026, and the launch is set for February 4, 2027.
Beyond the nostalgia factor, obvious to anyone who grew up with translucent consoles and controllers, the move matters for what it says about where PS5 stands right now: Sony keeps squeezing its premium accessory lineup rather than making the experience cheaper, and it is betting on collectors as a sales driver as the generation enters its final stretch. For anyone who competes or creates content, a controller that adds no new features but costs more than the standard DualSense raises the question of whether the design justifies the expense.
What you need to know
- Three colors: Flare Orange, Emerald Green and Graphite Gray, available for both the controller and the console covers.
- Official pricing: the DualSense Prism will cost $84.99, €84.99 or £74.99; the console covers, $74.99, €74.99 or £64.99.
- Pre-orders open at 10:00 local time on November 10, 2026, through the official PlayStation store and participating retailers.
- Launch on February 4, 2027, with Sony's note that availability may vary by region.
- The console covers will be sold exclusively through Sony's direct channel, according to the source, bypassing third-party stores.
What the Prism Collection includes and how to buy it
The pitch is simple: the same DualSense as always, with the same PS5 console cover you already know, but made of transparent plastic that shows off part of the hardware's inner workings. The announcement makes no mention of changes to the triggers, battery, sticks or latency. It is, in essence, a cosmetic edition, and Sony is selling it as exactly that: "three striking transparent designs" for controller and console.
Here are the recommended prices by product and currency, as detailed by the source:
| Product | USD | EUR | GBP |
|---|---|---|---|
| DualSense Prism controller | 84.99 | 84.99 | 74.99 |
| PS5 Prism console cover | 74.99 | 74.99 | 64.99 |
As for where to buy, the source cites a shared pre-order page at playstation.com/store/hardware for the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. For the rest of the world it refers to the official PlayStation store and participating retailers, with no further detail. This matters for our community in the Americas: the announcement specifies no channels or concrete dates for Latin America, so the February 4, 2027 date should be treated as a global reference rather than a local guarantee.
A nod to the past in the twilight of the generation
Transparent console covers and controllers are a hardware classic from the late nineties and early 2000s. Sony bringing that look back now is no coincidence: PS5 has been on the market for several years, and special-edition accessories are a way to keep interest and the average spend up without touching the console's base price. The three chosen shades, a vivid orange, an emerald green and a more understated graphite gray, cover both the player who wants to stand out on camera and the one who prefers something subtle on the desk.
The fact that the console covers will only be sold through Sony's direct channel also points to a trend: more and more PlayStation accessories are being reserved for its own store, which makes it easier to control stock and pricing but makes buying harder in markets where that direct store does not operate normally.

Our take
Here at the Underworld Lordz newsroom we will say it plainly: the Prism Collection is gorgeous, and on a stream camera a Flare Orange or Emerald Green DualSense looks fantastic. For content creators who care about their setup, it is an accessory that sells an image and fits the retro taste currently dominating peripherals. Sony got the colors right and nailed the timing of the pre-orders, just ahead of the holiday shopping season.
That said, for the competitive player the value is debatable. There is no functional improvement announced: no adjustable triggers, no swappable sticks, nothing that brings this controller closer to what serious players ask for. Paying €84.99 for a standard DualSense in different plastic is a purely aesthetic decision, and we should not dress it up as anything else. If what you need is performance, your money goes further elsewhere.
Access worries us too. The direct-only sale of the console covers and the lack of specific information for Latin America leave a good part of our community waiting on resellers or overpriced imports. Sony should clarify as soon as possible how and when the collection reaches each region, because a special edition that half the community cannot buy at the official price loses much of its appeal.
What do you think?
Pre-orders open on November 10, 2026, and we will find out whether the Prism Collection sells out in hours or sits on the virtual shelves. We have already taken our stance: great looks, little competitive value. Would you pay €84.99 for a transparent DualSense just for how it looks in your setup, or would you rather save that money for a controller with real features?
