Sony has released Saros: Zenith, the new update for the PlayStation 5 exclusive. As reported by Eurogamer Spain, the patch brings three major additions: a New Game+ mode, a set of accessibility options and a mode called Supreme Lance. It is the kind of update that arrives once a studio has seen how its community plays and decides to give them reasons to come back.

For those of us who follow the demanding action genre, this matters for two reasons. First, because New Game+ is the natural format for repeat play, the one that fuels leaderboards, speedruns and streams. Second, because accessibility widens the pool of players who can compete and create content with the game, and that is always good for the scene.

What you need to know

  • Name and publisher: the update is called Saros: Zenith and has been released by Sony, according to Eurogamer Spain.
  • New Game+: lets you start the adventure again after finishing it, the most requested addition from players who have already squeezed everything out of the campaign.
  • Accessibility options: the patch adds new options so that more people can play the game properly.
  • Supreme Lance mode: a new mode whose name points to an additional challenge for the most experienced players.
  • No official figures in the source: the available information does not detail the patch size, specific dates or the exact settings of each option, so it is worth checking the game's patch notes before drawing conclusions.

What changes for the Saros community

Saros is an action shooter built around difficulty and repeated attempts, a space where New Game+ makes a lot of sense. The classic mode of replaying with everything you already have turns a finished campaign into a loop of self-improvement: mastering routes, optimising resources and lowering times. For a community that lives on comparing itself, that loop is the main fuel.

The Supreme Lance mode is the big unknown. The source only mentions the name, but in games like this a mode with a label like that usually points to a challenge above the norm. If it really works as an extra layer of difficulty or as a challenge built around a specific mechanic, it could become the benchmark for players looking to show off on social media. Until there are official details, we treat it as a promise, not a fact.

Accessibility is competitive too

Accessibility is often seen as something separate from high-level play, and that is a mistake. Every option that removes an unnecessary barrier means more people able to reach the end, publish their runs and join the conversation. A hard game does not stop being hard because it lets you adjust aspects that have nothing to do with skill. What will be needed is to know exactly which options have been added and whether any of them affect comparisons between players, because that will determine how challenges and informal rankings are organised within communities.

Our take

Here at the Underworld Lordz editorial team we welcome the direction Zenith is taking, though with a raised eyebrow. New Game+ and a challenge mode are exactly what a game of this style needs to stay relevant for content creators. The problem is that, with the information available, we still do not know whether Supreme Lance is a mode with its own rules that justifies a season of challenges or simply a flashy name for a difficulty setting. The difference between the two is huge for anyone planning weekly content.

The silence on details also worries us. A patch that touts accessibility should come with a clear list of what can be changed and how it interacts with the challenge modes. Otherwise, competitive players will end up arguing in every clip about whether a given run counts or not, and that wears down any community. Sony and the studio have the opportunity to get it right by communicating the rules transparently.

That said, the move comes at a good time. An exclusive that receives free post-launch content, designed for those who have already finished it, is a sign of commitment to the community. If Supreme Lance turns out to be what its name promises, we will see Saros return to our creators' streams and challenges for quite some time.

What do you think?

New Game+, accessibility and a new mode with a challenge-worthy name: Zenith has the ingredients to revive Saros, but everything depends on what lies behind the name.
