The Witcher 3 remaster arrives for free: your PC will have to work a little harder

Geralt is back roaming the Continent, looking better than ever. CD Projekt has finally released the remaster of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, a free update for all platforms that, as reported by Vida Extra, noticeably improves the experience in both visuals and gameplay. It isn't a new product you have to pay for: if you already own the game, the upgrade is yours.

That said, the news can be read two ways. On console, you just download the update and you're done. On PC, you'll need to do your homework before diving in: check whether your rig meets the new minimum and recommended requirements, which are higher than those of the original version. The good news, according to Vida Extra, is that the jump doesn't leave half the world behind: the requirements go up, but they don't become out of reach.

First, the good part: in an industry that has turned remasters into a way of charging again for the same thing, CD Projekt delivering this upgrade at no cost deserves credit. It's a smart way to give something back to those who bought the game years ago and, at the same time, to build hype for the upcoming DLC. Yes, it's marketing, but it's marketing that benefits the player.

For content creators, this is a clear opportunity: side-by-side version comparisons, fresh playthroughs from scratch, updated guides and rediscovery streams. A word of warning for anyone streaming from the same PC they play on: if the game demands more resources, there's less headroom left for the encoder. Test your streaming setup before announcing the marathon, not during it. And although The Witcher 3 isn't an esports title, the speedrun community will have to decide how the new version fits into its categories. That always sparks debate.

Now for our more critical side: requirements that look reachable on paper don't guarantee the game will run well in practice. The real test will be how it performs on modest setups during the first few weeks, patches included.
