EA Sports FC 27 dominates 2026: PlayStation drives the success while Xbox falls behind

Football is back on top of the sales charts. According to a report by Vandal, EA Sports FC 27 has become the highest-grossing premium game of 2026. In very little time it has overtaken two releases that seemed untouchable this year: Resident Evil Requiem and Forza Horizon 6. Estimates point to 7.9 million copies sold across PlayStation, Xbox and Steam, and the best launch in the series' recent history.

This matters for more than just the rankings. Those numbers only cover sales of the game itself, not what is spent in Ultimate Team, which is where EA makes its real money. If the player base starts this strong, the competitive ecosystem, tournaments and content around FC 27 are guaranteed a year with a big audience. For teams like ours, that is the signal that counts.

What you need to know

  • FC 27 has sold around 7.9 million copies across PlayStation, Xbox and Steam.
  • Game sales are estimated to have generated around $714.1 million, not counting in-game purchases in Ultimate Team.
  • PlayStation accounts for 77.1% of copies, compared to 15.9% on Xbox and 7% on Steam.
  • On PlayStation, revenue for the first 19 days is up 22% compared to FC 26 over the same period.
  • On Xbox, however, revenue is down 14% compared to its predecessor.

A series that relies more and more on PlayStation

The most striking part of the data is not the total volume, but how it is split. More than three out of every four copies have been sold on Sony consoles. According to Vandal, PlayStation generated an estimated $573.9 million in the first 19 days, while Xbox stands at just $106 million. The source does not break down Steam revenue, so we are not going to speculate on that figure.

The trend is clear: the series is growing where it was already strong and shrinking where it was already weaker. Console football players are increasingly on PlayStation. PC remains a small slice, which will surprise no one who has played FUT on a computer in recent years.

What it means for the competitive scene

A player base this concentrated on one platform has consequences. Ultimate Team markets, the number of opponents in Division Rivals and visibility on the leaderboards all depend on how many people are online. If Xbox keeps losing ground year after year, those who compete there could notice slower matchmaking or less liquid markets, especially if crossplay does not cover every mode. For content creators the message is just as direct: the bulk of the audience is on PlayStation, and that shapes what gets recorded, with which controller and for whom.

Our take

Here at Underworld Lordz we are clear on this: FC 27 has got off to a flying start, but let's not confuse sales with quality. A yearly football game sells on momentum, on its licenses and because a large part of the community buys it on day one no matter what. Beating Resident Evil Requiem and Forza Horizon 6 says a lot about the size of its audience and very little about whether the gameplay holds up in competitive play. We will find that out with the upcoming patches, the meta and how EA responds to the usual complaints.

What does worry us is that the revenue figure leaves out Ultimate Team, which is exactly where the real business is. If game sales alone already bring in more than $700 million, it is hard to understand why the pressure to spend on packs remains just as aggressive every season. For competitive players, that translates into an advantage for whoever pays the most, and it is a criticism we will keep making.

For creators, the timing is good: there is an audience, there is interest and there is conversation. But it pays to diversify. Relying on a single yearly game, with a community so concentrated on one platform, means betting everything on a card that EA fully controls.
