Football still rules the shelves in Spain. According to figures reported by Vandal, based on the weekly report from the Spanish Video Game Association (AEVI) compiled by GSD, EA Sports FC 27 was once again the best-selling game in Spain during week 41 of 2026, covering October 5 to 11. And it didn't do things by halves: it tops both the physical sales chart and the combined chart that adds retail units to digital downloads.

Why does it matter? Because we're in the hottest stretch of the release calendar, with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 about to land and the shadow of GTA 6 looming over the entire industry. What looks like a quiet reign today could turn into a heavyweight fight within days, and that says a lot about which games will fill the community's hours, tournaments and streams this autumn.

What you need to know

  • EA Sports FC 27 leads both of Spain's sales charts for week 41 (October 5 to 11).
  • This time, the top spots on the physical chart and the combined chart (physical plus digital) are exactly the same.
  • Kingdom Hearts Collection [I-III], which brings together most of the series, takes second place.
  • Gears of War: E-Day, released on October 6, rounds out the podium in its launch week.
  • FC 27's lead is at risk with the imminent debut of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.

An identical podium in physical and digital

Every week, AEVI publishes two separate rankings: one that only counts boxed copies and another that also includes digital purchases. Usually there are differences between the two, since some players buy almost everything in stores while others never set foot in one anymore. This time, however, the top of both charts matches perfectly, which points to three releases with broad appeal across every type of player.

It's worth stressing that the source doesn't provide unit figures, so we're talking about rankings, not volumes. We don't know by how much FC 27 is winning, or whether Gears of War came close to second place or fell well short. What is clear is the overall picture: an annual sports title, a nostalgic collection and a brand-new Xbox shooter sharing the podium.

The threat arriving this week

The most interesting takeaway isn't in the ranking, but in what's coming next. Vandal suggests that Modern Warfare 4 is the clear favorite to snatch the crown from Electronic Arts' game, as usually happens whenever a new Call of Duty hits stores. FC 27 will stay near the top, there's no doubt about that, but first place is now up for grabs. And further down the line, it remains to be seen how the arrival of GTA 6, this year's big elephant in the room, will reshuffle everything.

Our take

Here at the Underworld Lordz newsroom, we see this with a mix of logic and a bit of fatigue. Nobody is surprised that FC leads in Spain: it's a game that thrives on online competition, Ultimate Team and the habit of upgrading every year. For competitive players, this confirms that the virtual football ecosystem still has a huge player base, which means fast matchmaking and well-attended tournaments. But we also wonder how much of those sales comes from genuine excitement and how much from sheer yearly habit.

Gears of War: E-Day strikes us as the most positive note. Breaking into the podium in its launch week, between a sports giant and a much-loved collection, is a sign that players are hungry for shooters with their own identity. For content creators, releases like this are gold: a new community, a meta still to be discovered and less saturation than the usual franchises. Let's hope it doesn't get swallowed up by the avalanche that's coming.

And that avalanche has a name. Modern Warfare 4 is going to split the competitive audience's attention right away, and the day GTA 6 comes out, the entire conversation will shift toward it. Our advice for players and streamers is simple: don't chase every release out of obligation. Choose where you want to stand out, because this autumn the noise is going to be deafening and only those who stay focused will get anything worthwhile out of it.
