GTA 6 on PC reportedly targeting Q1 2027: a shorter wait than expected

PC players have long been used to being at the back of the line whenever Rockstar launches a new Grand Theft Auto. This time, things could be different. As reported by Vandal, citing GamesBeat, an outlet that covers the games industry, Grand Theft Auto VI would arrive on PC in the first quarter of 2027. That would leave very little time between its launch on PS5 and Xbox Series and its PC release, and the console launch is now just over a month away.

Why does it matter? Because it completely changes the plans of a huge part of the community: people who play with mouse and keyboard, people who make a living from streaming, and people waiting for a scene of mods and roleplay servers. That said, it's worth being clear from the start: Rockstar has not officially announced any PC version. For now, this is a leak, although it is backed by several sources.

What you need to know

  • GamesBeat places the PC launch of GTA 6 in the first quarter of 2027.
  • The outlet says it verified the information with four separate industry sources who are reportedly familiar with the studio's plans.
  • Those sources remain anonymous to avoid damaging their business relationships with Rockstar.
  • The console version (PS5 and Xbox Series) arrives in just over a month.
  • Rockstar has not yet confirmed that a PC edition exists.

A change of pace from Rockstar's usual approach

Anyone who has followed the studio over the years knows that PC has never been its day-one priority. The norm has been to launch on consoles first and leave PC for a second phase, with a wait the community has endured release after release. That's why the information reported by Vandal stands out so much: if confirmed, the gap between the two versions would be just a few months, which fits with the idea that the PC version is already well along in development.

The credibility of the report rests mainly on the number of sources. Four industry insiders pointing to the same window is no absolute guarantee, but it is far more solid than the typical forum rumor. Even so, the anonymity cuts both ways: it protects those who spoke, but it also means we have to treat the news with caution until Rockstar steps forward.

Who it affects

The impact is clear for three groups. First, PC-only players, who wouldn't need to consider buying a console just for this game. Second, content creators, who rely on capture tools, overlays and streaming setups that are far more flexible on PC. And third, the roleplay and modding scene, which in previous installments turned the game into a phenomenon that stayed alive for years precisely thanks to PC.

Our take

Here at Underworld Lordz, we're clear on this: if this window holds, it's great news. A short gap between consoles and PC reduces community fragmentation and avoids that frustrating effect of watching the conversation, the memes and the discoveries burn out before half the audience can even play. For a team with a community spread across the Americas and Europe, where many of us play on PC, that means being able to organize matches, events and content without leaving anyone out for too long.

That said, we're not going to applaud something that doesn't officially exist. Rockstar's continued silence creates uncertainty, and it's hard for content creators to plan schedules, hardware investments or livestream series on such shaky ground. We'd like the studio to speak up soon, even if it's just a simple "coming to PC," so people can decide with real information whether to buy the game on console now or wait a few months.

And a word of warning for the most impatient: a PC version that arrives quickly is only worth it if it arrives in good shape. We'd rather wait a little longer than get a port riddled with performance issues. Optimization, mod support and solid multiplayer handling will matter far more to us than gaining a few weeks.

What do you think?

The ball is in Rockstar's court, but every player faces the decision right now: buy on console today or hold out until 2027. We've already got a debate going in the newsroom.
