Geralt of Rivia's return hasn't been as smooth as many hoped. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Remastered has only been on sale for a few days, and players have already spotted a sizable list of problems: performance drops, visual glitches and, on console, even crashes. According to Vandal, CD Projekt has already released several updates addressing things like lighting and DLSS behavior, and says it is still working on more fixes. That said, it's asking for something the community never has much of: patience.

Why does it matter? Because this isn't just any release. It's one of the most beloved RPGs of the past decade, from a studio that still lives in the shadow of rocky launches. Every technical misstep from CD Projekt gets put under the microscope, and a remaster of an already well-established game arriving with performance problems reopens the debate about how games are launched today: sell them first, polish them later.

What you need to know

  • The Witcher 3 remaster came out just a few days ago and has already received several updates.
  • The released patches fix, among other things, lighting, DLSS behavior and various technical issues.
  • On PC, players are reporting performance problems and visual glitches.
  • On PlayStation 5, crashes and frame drops have been reported, and CD Projekt confirms it is working specifically on that version.
  • The studio has shared a roadmap of next steps focused on improving performance, but hasn't given any specific timelines.

What's broken and where

The information gathered by Vandal paints a picture split across platforms. On PC, the focus is on performance and graphical bugs, which is especially sensitive for a product whose main selling point is precisely the visual upgrade. The fact that some of the first patches target DLSS and lighting directly shows the studio knows that's where the core of the complaints lies.

On PlayStation 5, the situation is more serious in terms of gameplay experience: crashes aren't a cosmetic issue, they mean interrupted sessions. CD Projekt has said through its official channels that one of its priorities is to keep improving performance on Sony's console, although the message doesn't give dates or the exact scope of the upcoming changes.

A pattern we've seen before

It's impossible to read this news without thinking about the Polish studio's recent track record. CD Projekt has proven it knows how to rescue its games with post-launch work, but it has also proven it tends to ship them before they're ready. The difference here is that the underlying gameplay is solid and well known: the problem isn't the game itself, but the technical layer added on top of it.

Our take

Here at Underworld Lordz, we appreciate the quick response. Releasing patches in the first few days and openly communicating what's being worked on beats the corporate silence we see from other studios. That said, transparency doesn't fully make up for a remaster, a product built on an already finished game, launching with crashes on a current-gen console. Asking for patience is fine when the problem is unpredictable; it's harder to accept when the issues show up within the first few hours.

For content creators, there's a very practical takeaway: if you're planning a stream series or a visual guide for the remaster, you might want to wait until it stabilizes. A stream full of framerate stutters or a comparison video ruined by graphical bugs doesn't do justice to the game or your channel. And if your community asks whether it's worth buying right now, the honest answer today is: it depends on your platform and your tolerance for patches.

For the most demanding players, the ones who scrutinize every frame and won't forgive a single drop, the message is clear: this is a good time to watch, not to rush in. The Witcher 3 is still a massive game, and it isn't going anywhere. CD Projekt should take the time it needs, but it shouldn't turn launch day into a public beta again.

What do you think?

Have you already jumped into the remaster, or would you rather wait for more patches? Do you think it's acceptable for a studio to ask for patience on a launch like this, or is it time to demand finished games from day one?
