Gran Turismo 7 is back on track in style. As reported by Vandal, Polyphony Digital's racing sim receives the first part of Spec IV on October 15 at 8:00 a.m. (CEST), a free update that adds cars, events, a new circuit and extra features. Sony is seizing the moment to announce a DualSense Limited Edition: Gran Turismo, the first official nod to the franchise's 30th anniversary.
Why does it matter? Because GT7 keeps adding content without charging for it, something that's far from common in the industry, and because the controller announcement confirms that PlayStation has already set the anniversary machinery in motion. Add to that the fact that, as Vandal points out, everything suggests Gran Turismo 8 could be announced next year, and this update starts to feel like a grand send-off for the current installment.
What you need to know
- Spec IV (part one) arrives for free on October 15 at 8:00 a.m. CEST.
- It includes six new cars and six new events.
- It debuts the Sportsland Sugo circuit, along with the Experience mode, new Scapes locations and car viewing features.
- Sony announces a Limited Edition DualSense with a motorsport-inspired design.
- 2027 marks 30 years since the first Gran Turismo, and the series has already started celebrating.
The Spec IV cars
The car lineup is eclectic, to say the least. There's a Vision Gran Turismo concept, '90s icons, an '80s race car and even a family minivan. These are the six models detailed by the source:
| Car | Year / version | Profile |
|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo | Concept VGT | Design prototype |
| Ferrari F355 Berlinetta | ’94 | Classic sports car |
| Honda Civic Si Group A | ’87 | Racing |
| Mazda RX-Vision GT3 Evo | ’26 | GT3 racing |
| Honda Step WGN Spada Premium Line | ’23 | Minivan |
| Citroën 2 CV 6 Charleston | ’86 | Classic city car |
For competitive players, the standout name is the Mazda RX-Vision GT3 Evo: a GT3-class car always has a real shot at breaking into the online scene if its Balance of Performance cooperates. The rest leans more toward nostalgia, collecting and, why not, pure fun: seeing a 2 CV on track never gets old.
Sportsland Sugo and the anniversary
The other big draw is Sportsland Sugo, a Japanese circuit joining the roster alongside the six new events. Every new track expands the race rotation and forces drivers to learn their reference points from scratch, so for the competitive scene it's probably the addition with the biggest real impact.
Meanwhile, the DualSense Limited Edition Gran Turismo kicks off the 30th anniversary celebrations. Vandal reports that it features motorsport-inspired graphics; for pricing and availability in your region, it's wise to wait for PlayStation's official channels.
Our take
Here at Underworld Lordz, we're clear on this: Spec IV is good news. A new circuit and a fresh GT3 car breathe new life into a game that has been on the market for years, and the fact that it's all free deserves credit. That said, nobody should expect a competitive revolution: many of these cars are built more for the garage and photo mode than for qualifying lobbies.
For content creators, the package is juicier than it looks. Scapes, the new car viewing features and the Experience mode provide material for videos, comparisons and viral challenges. And with the update arriving "in parts," there will be several spikes of interest over the coming months, something any motorsport channel knows how to capitalize on.
The controller leaves us with more doubts. A good-looking DualSense is great for collectors, but serious GT players race with a wheel. And if Gran Turismo 8 is as close as the source suggests, the uncomfortable question is how much competitive life GT7 has left before the community moves on.
What do you think?
Spec IV brings a new circuit, a GT3 car and tributes to motorsport history, but it also feels like GT7's final lap. Are you going to push Sportsland Sugo and the RX-Vision GT3 Evo to the limit, or are you already saving your energy for Gran Turismo 8? Let us know in the team chat or on our Discord.
